Re: Captain Tom Dies
The geezer himself was actually alright and going beyond what someone of his age should do
The fact his family were grifters shouldn’t detract from that

Why are you so sure he wasn't part of the grift?Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2024 8:19 pm The geezer himself was actually alright and going beyond what someone of his age should do

You could buy it, and then sell tickets for others to enter and retrace the famous walk.

Re: Captain Tom Dies
Charity Commission finds that Captain Tom's daughter was, as predicted on here, a wrongun.

Re: Captain Tom Dies
Some old geezer walking around his garden eventually leading to a formal investigation and report published by a government body is properly mental when you think about it.

Re: Captain Tom Dies
It was never some old geezer walking round his garden though - that wasn’t the starting point, anyway. The whole thing was a calculated grift by a family exploiting an old man, the walking round the garden was just the PR hook

Re: Captain Tom Dies
I've just re-read this thread from the start. It contains some great boardin' moments. But Beradogs wading in on page 5 and him misunderstanding that it was Admin, and not Captain Tom, doing a poo, is my favourite.

Think I’ve still got the pic of the poo I did somewhere. Looked nothing like Cpt Tom Moore though. Turned out much more like a brown Jimmy Nail.

Well he’s walking around the big garden in the sky now.CEB2ElectricBoogaloo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 8:57 pm It was never some old geezer walking round his garden though - that wasn’t the starting point, anyway. Re: Captain Tom Dies
After just a brief internet search on the timeline:
In Decemberr 2020 the Ingram family took the old man on a big family holiday to Barbados ... was this really his desire given the age he was?
In the UK Covid restrictions at that time only allowed family bubbles.
Was travelling to Barbados from the UK open to all or just a special favour to the Ingrams in persuit of positive publicity for their mega fundraising (and the airline?)
He died from Covid in February 2021. I suspect that he would have been happier to spend that Christmas near his garden rather than in Barbados!

Re: Captain Tom Dies
The Charity Commission dealt with the legal issues. Coming from a social work background , I am aware that there is such as thing as 'elder abuse and exploitation'. I suspect that Captain Tom had no idea of what public manipulation was done under his name.

Does he usually present that program or was he a pinch-hitter brought in especially for her appearance ? (if so, I guess she didn't know before agreeing to be on)

I think he may be one of their on-rotation presenters. But yeah, I bet she properly shat her pants when she realised he'd be asking the questions.

Loved the "so if I had that contract under my desk it wouldn't have your signature on it, then?" [reaches under desk while maintaining eye-contact]
