China has said it is “ready for war” with America as it raises defence spending and imposes retaliatory tariffs on US imports.

You're right, China said they are ready for any type of war, but war is a type of war and their statement that they are ready for any type of war implies they are ready for war.

China has been subtling its way around the world for years now, expanding their sphere of influence with little regard for the consequences.

Yes, but at least life would be so much more pleasant for all of us under Xi Jinping than president Trump.
