Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
This is a c&p from a Guardian report just now ....
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian foreign ministry, said it was a miracle that Trump and his vice-president, JD Vance, had restrained themselves from hitting Zelenskyy.
Konstantin Kosachyov, deputy chair of Russia’s upper house of parliament, said the bruising encounter had revealed Zelenskyy’s true colours. “Zelenskyiy lost this round with a deafening rattle. And he will have to crawl to the next one on his knees,” he wrote.
Former Kremlin adviser Sergei Markov said the White House meeting was likely to accelerate the end of Zelenskyy’s political career.
Longtime Russian lawmaker Andrei Klishas said the meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy had yielded a “brilliant result”, adding that the Ukrainian leader acted like a “clown” and had been thrown out of the White House “for bad behaviour and disrespect towards the US”.
What a snake pit Trump had set up for the meeting today!
He had wanted a submissive Zelenski, kissing his feet.

Think I also heard Trump making a comment about this being "good television".

Have you seen the AI thing today which alledgedly has been seen by Trump (and not objected to) ...Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 10:17 pm Stupidly only just realised this is all money related. The bullying face of pure capitalism.
Trump wants to make billions from this minerals for years to come and brag to the American public about how much money he has made, probably setting some aside for himself and only then would he agree to American securities. But Zelenskyy has told him to do one so he’s set up up an ambush to try to embarrass him.
Assume it’s also the reason starmer has bent the knee and committing more money to defence, because the weapons will be coming from America?
All sickening but at least it’s being played out in front of our eyes now so we can all see what the world is about

On the turn of a dime, Starmer's diplomatic victory has turned into a geopolitical nightmare. It's literally the last thing he wanted to happen.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2025 8:36 pm Starmer is going to be fun to watch. Riding the wave of a "successful" trip, now seeing all the EU allies backing Zelensky. Bet he bails.

I have faith in our Foreign Secretary to ride this wave and work the back channels with his undeniable charisma to avert a geopolitical crisis

Heh.
Starmer must have watched in horror as yesterday's event in the White House unfolded. A sense of dread forming in the pit of his stomach. He would have thought to himself, "how can things get any worse?" And then he'd have remembered. There's always Lammy.

What I'm hoping to hear this afternoon from this meeting of NATO leaders in London is what is their plan to bring peace . In reality Russia will never retreat so without America ,what's the plan ?

I see Moscows asset has frozen military support to Ukrainia. Only a matter of time before he diverts it to his commanding officer in the Kremlin and then the Axis of Evil is fully formed.

I haven't bought the theory that Trump is a Russian plant, but I'm struggling to think what someone in the pocket of Putin would do differently.
There's been a few interesting interviews with Bannon where he's suggested that the maga lot are trying to draw Russia into their geopolitical sphere to wage war against the real enemy, the godless, communist Chinese. It's proper bat sh*t stuff but is the only plausible explanation for what Trump is doing other than he's completely compromised.

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
I still haven't heard what Europe's alternative to Trump's peace plan is . What is our peace plan . ? I keep thinking about Starmer's brainfart idea about sending UK troops to Ukraine . Firstly , the Russians would never agree to that and secondly , what do our troops do if fired upon . Apart from WW3, what is Starmer's plan B ?
Apparently , we're going to be leading from the front with American support . Ermm , what support. ? America has just stopped all funding to Ukraine . Without American support we won't be leading anywhere .

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
I dont think its as deep as that. I think Putin knows how to rub Donalds ego. They've both seen an opportunity to get what they want - parts of Ukraine for Russia and loads of money for America. The combination of the two means that Trump gets a good headline and is seen as the good guy, brokering peace whilst Putin tells him how great he is.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Tue Mar 04, 2025 11:10 am I haven't bought the theory that Trump is a Russian plant, but I'm struggling to think what someone in the pocket of Putin would do differently.

I think Trump just doesnt want to pay for Ukraines war, so the easiest way he sees to stop the war is to just tell Ukraine to give up.

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
I don't think he did. He wanted a reaction from Zelenski that he didn't get, so they could take the stance they're taking anyway.
