Re: Currie Red
He made a bit of contact with the player after he had won the ball. But not enough for a booking I would have thought. In the Celtic v Bayern game, a Bayern defender stood on a Celtic player's ankle in the penalty box. Ref was sent to have a look at the monitor by the VAR official. It showed that the Bayern player had just nicked the ball first before crocking the Celtic man. The consensus was that as he had touched the ball first it was no foul. Seems you can have it both ways.

Re: Currie Red
I thought the rules were supposed to have changed that it no longer mattered if you got the ball first. That being said as strong as Curries challenge was I don't think it was even a foul as he seemed in control of it.Celtient wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 11:49 am He made a bit of contact with the player after he had won the ball. Re: Currie Red
The only foul was the pull - by May? - on Currie, which he had to extract himself from before making the tackle.

Re: Currie Red
Currie won the ball, and the ball was already travelling upfield when the Birmingham player arrived (late).
You could put a case to say it was dangerous play from the Brum player, since the ball had been won by Currie and had already gone.
One of the most ludicrous sending offs I've seen, which immediately destroyed the contest too.

Re: Currie Red
A diabolical decision by the Ref. The club should appeal it . Richie said we didn't play at full throttle afterwards.

Re: Currie Red
Ten minutes ten men , as with any game now i switched off, ten men behind the ball match over.
Happens far too often, incompetent over zealous officials in the name of player protection, you can't even look at a goalkeeper no thought for the supporters,
It is a contact sport still, just .
Beginning to despair.

This is exactly the point, seems illogical to penalise someone for getting there first (rather than late) and cleanly playing the ball.Scuba Diver wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 12:49 pm Currie won the ball, and the ball was already travelling upfield when the Birmingham player arrived (late).

Re: Currie Red
1. Direct free kick
A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
charges
jumps at
kicks or attempts to kick
pushes
strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt)
tackles or challenges
trips or attempts to trip
If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.
Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed
Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned
Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SENDING-OFF OFFENCES
A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off:
denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by committing a deliberate handball offence (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)
denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by committing a non-deliberate handball offence outside their own penalty area
denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent whose overall movement is towards the offender's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick (unless as outlined below)
serious foul play
biting or spitting at someone
violent conduct
using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or action(s)
receiving a second caution in the same match
entering the video operation room (VOR)
SERIOUS FOUL PLAY
A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure we've been over this previously for another incident? It all comes down to whether Currie used 'Excessive Force' or not (he didn't) or if he endangered the safety of an opponent (he didn't).

Re: Currie Red
Not sure anyone comes out of that with much credit to be honest. Played for a few years at Powerleague at Fairlop - mainly infested by twattish referees or psychopaths kicking seven shades of sh*t out of anything that moved. Thinking back I'm not really sure what possessed me at the time....

You could make a case that the tackle meets this criteria.
1. It was a lunge
2. Lunging at somebody with both feet off the ground can endanger the safety of an opponent as you’re not in complete control when you leave the floor
For complete clarity, I’m not saying I think the ref got it bang on but I’m disputing the implication that his decision was completely unfounded.

I think you're right and it was the little jump that the ref would have noticed. The Reverend wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 4:36 pmHoover Attack wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 3:55 pm

But is someone in control just because they don't leave the floor? Momentum can still mean you're not in control.
