I was in the nags head in Walthamstow on Monday and got charged £7.50 for a neck oil. It’s enough to make me jump back on the wagon
Yeah, bearing in mind Neckoil is now the Fosters of the craft ale world the pricing is risible, is 7.20 in the george and dragon wanstead which seems incredible when they have cheaper better options, but the NH has set a high bar.
Oooff that’s a good description of Neck Oil. You’ve put me off it so thanks.
Signature Brew is the only local brewery that really does good beer IMO

I’m currently in the Sun Tavern in Bethnal Green having another great Walthamstow beer, Pillars Pilsner. They do some great beers too. Signature have a great selection too.

She may well have come a long way. Doesn’t mean that a pub with literally dozens of signs up forbidding various things, and a tendency to lose her sh*t at random couples she perceives as having broke a rule, is much fun to spend time in
Her pub her rules, its always been like that. Nobody is forced through the door.

Calm down mate, you’re very welcome to spend as much time in a pub with the vibe “Delores Umbridges Fever Dream” as you like, but it’s OK to have an opinion that it’s not much fun to spend time in x

What does learning & Mental health issues mean to you ? A e few signs up shouldnt bother anyone who is blessed with normality. Calmness usually comes from understanding mate.
Weirdly, in 21 years working with people with physical and learning disabilities, in charities, schools, care homes, colleges and universities, I never once came across anyone who said “never say you don’t like the vibe of a pub, in case the authoritarian landlady had mental health issues in the past”, but I did miss a training day in 2003, so that was probably when they covered that. Man if I’d gone in that day I would realise how reasonable it was when I saw her shouting abuse at a young family who sat on the front bench with a pram and got sworn at and their drinks taken off them because they hadn’t realised the policy

All that experience & you can't see someone with mild down's syndrome?
You’re weirdly determined to take issue here, aren’t you?
Mate, had someone said “urgh, people with disabilities should not run pubs” then you would have my wholehearted support.
Maintaining that the nags head has a weird vibe due to the landlady’s fanatical adherence to her own long list of things she won’t tolerate is not a judgement of her right to have such a list, nor her right run the pub as she sees fit.
The end result is that as a pub it’s a bit s***. If you’d like me to review it as a social enterprise rather than a pub, let me know x

I don't think I am, I just mentioned she'd come a long way with her issues. No need to make it more than the passing comment it was
So many anti disabled people in those reviews. Don’t they realise how far the landlady has come, only to be told her pub is crap simply because she followed black people into the toilets to check they’re not taking drugs?

Was the drum before I think? I always forget it exists. But there’s something inherently grotty about the bakers arms area.
Princess of wales’ issue isn’t so much kids or men doing their responsibilities, is more that it’s felt a bit like the ferryboat - nice enough in there, but little to no atmosphere and feels much less uninviting than a pleasant pub next to waterway should be.
Anyone complaining about small children in pubs should be made to sit in the nags head and talk to the mental landlady who puts up all the signs

Nancy's was a late night Friday stop, open till between midnight & 1 on a Weekend.
Calamari & chips at 11.15 pm was always a goto at Nancy's..
I remember the owners son having an XR3 I & a very well known face from the Brewery Tap launching a veranda umbrella at it in the 80s. Oh they were the days of youth

Nags head refurb has put me right off. Has leant so heavily into middle class shabby chic that it's self parody. Only pub in the village I actually enjoy is the castle (which is the epitome of what RD is skewering really but at least does a very good roast).
Lord Palmerston did gammon and chips for less than a tenner last time I went. One of my favourite pubs in the area.
The European is right near where I live but the combination of name and EU flag on the signage seems so smugly Awesomestow that I'm not sure I'll be able to give it a chance.
Hare and hounds is fine but nothing more.
Remarkable Pubs, who have bought it, have run boozers in East London since 1985. This is their 17th. Really experienced family business operators who enhance pubs. If you’re in that area it will be a huge upgrade on the William, POW, Bootlaces and the alco-crèche Castle.
Not really Walthamstow watch but some kind of incident along the canal by Millfields Park - paramedics, 2 fire engines and 4 po-po units, towpath cordoned off. Suspect either an assault or someone fallen in.
Fire at The Bell pub last night, cordoned off. Local commenter on absolutely everything Stella Creasey MP already helpfully speculating it's arson, despite no apparent evidence of that at this very early stage.
