Just looking at an old OS map of the area and see there was once a road, which followed the Commonwealth city name format, that ran parallel to Oliver Road.

There was what looks like a TB hospital present and a sewage works behind.

Any of you old faces of the manor remember the road and buildings and when they disappeared?

The park had a few swings and a slide, Leyton Fete was held there every August Bank Holiday Monday.
That turning led to Auckland Road and the tip where all the council refuse trucks emptied out
Bit further up on the corner of Oliver Road was Ruckholt Road School

Next to the cinder pitch were some tennis courts and a bowling green,
Also a putting green, had to pay for the clubs and a ball from a wooden hut, also got a scorecard and pencil.
There were wooden changing rooms and at one time somewhere to get a fizzy drink or a cuppa.
As a kid in the sixties I thought Leyton was a great places to live, even had its own football team.
Even remember going to get Tadpoles from the little pond with a fountain in Coronation Gardens

We used to train on that Cinder pitch in Autumn/winter. Before training we had to complete a 3 mile run around the streets in a specified time, it was bloody hard work and every week there were four or five of us, not the best runners who would just about scrape in on time and headed straight for "Vomit corner" before we started the rest of training and eventually some football it was only at the end of the season we discovered a few of what we classed as the really good runners would sprint off out of sight and un beknown to the rest of us take a short cut back to the Cinder pitch - tbf we were a very fit team but boy was it hard work. Loved Leyton in those days.

I used to play on that pitch as a youngster,the Orient players often came over there to train , me and my mate sat on the wall behind one of the goals to watch,I remember Stan Charlton kicking the ball against the wall, I think if he had hit me I would have gone through the mesh fence we were leaning against. A couple of years later I had the opportunity to train with the youth team there I’ve still got the scars from a sliding tackle done on me by Dennis Rofe, he was as hard as nails, and Terry Brisley wasn’t that far behind him.

There is a bench in Coronation Gardens by the maze dedicated to the bloke who ran the fete for 30 years. Spinks was his name I think.
