Shadrach Ogie

Post by Lucky7 »

One of my Uncles who went to the game tonight and who doesn’t get excited about anything just give me a call to say how good Ogie was tonight
As I was one of the rebels who didn’t go or watch the stream any of you glory hunters😋that went tonight can agree with my uncle
Is Shadrach good enough for the first eleven?

Shadrach was rightly awarded LOFC Man of the Match tonight, and those that were there will have seen that the lad has great potential and certainly didn’t look out of place against a League One side.
I would say he looked a great defender but didn’t get too many chances to get forward.
He’s given RE a headache as who should start at LB.

Great that he stepped up and showed he has potential. We badly need cover and competition for left back.

Also worth saying, for balance, that Ogie played against a Southend team who had two players from their last starting line-up in a competition where players are not pressured to perform.

Let's also not overrate him based on one game against a side bottom of the division above playing their reserves. Expectations on Ogie will be greater when he progresses to playing in league games, the pressure greater and also against better calibre of players. It's also about being able to perform over a greater span than one game. Think he will be a great player and asset to us but we need to bring him along slowly this season and look to make him more of a regular next season when we will need him in the squad for a promotion push.

I'd rather he got a chance while Widdowson is out. He'd need a heck of a performance to stay in the side but I don't see anything wrong with taking a gamble. If not, then a loan in the National League somewhere, to get some real games.

If we're waiting for the ideal time to blood a youngster there likely will never be one. End of season rubbers are similar games where neither side cares too much. Seem to remember Aaron Pollock getting rave reviews against Yeovil away in a game that didn't matter.

Bit of a straw man in there as nobody is advocating waiting for an ideal time or for end of season rubbers. We should just look to bring him along slowly. That may mean covering for Widdowson for a couple of games and then getting some minutes off the bench with the odd start or two each month depending on the competition.

Another reason not to rush him along this season - no need to attract scouts elsewhere to his potential, for his agent to push up demands and possibly lose him for a tribunal determined pittance if teams have been impressed. Bring him along slowly, give him a multiyear deal and then unleash next season when he is better equipped for regular first time football and we have the security of him under a longer term contract.

Agree, but I think circumstances should play a part. At the start of the season I hoped that he would get some minutes in the cups, once we were out get out on loan. But then I thought we still would be playing wing-backs, so he would be considered a central defender. Now it seems a chance has opened up, but not sure it will be taken.

If Widdowson ain't ready for Saturday, I do suspect Ogie will not get a start on account that Swindon are a good side, so we want a known quantity at the back. Coming off the bench is an option but in one or two games time I'd expect Turley to be on there and getting minutes into him is probably a bigger priority.

I do think he should get a League debut, perhaps its earlier than expected but he's earned a go to try and get into the team.

Happe will surely play at left back on Saturday and also Judd has played at left back before and did ok.

It's an odd one. He's just turned 18, so it's not as if he's still in nappies. Both Koroma and Judd were playing regular at a younger age than he is, so it can be done. But as of yet, he's not even had the chance to sit on the subs bench or get a handful of minutes run out. All the time against a back drop of a squad with just one senior left back who has been injured from day one of the season.

If he was being seriously considered for a start, he should have been included. Throwing him straight into the starting side is not fair on him.

Ogie should have came into the side after the Mansfield win when the mood and confidence of the team would have been high. He is a natural defender and we go with a unbalanced defence against Crawley and guess what! Why wait all the time with young players, this is the second division not LaLiga. If as said he is out of contract this season then get him on a new contract and play him. Either way the probability is that his agent will move him on if the lad gets no game time. Seeing young home grown talent come through and show their skills is one of the most satisfying thing we supporters want to see, espescially smaller clubs like us. Orient have a history of bringing through young players dont be frightened of it, be brave!

We're going with a 5-3-1-3 formation. We won't be beaten.
