Agree with this entirely.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:09 pmWhy does Embleton persist in playing him ? He was put on the transfer list (and rightly so in my opinion).
Tragic circumstances in the summer played a part in him being taken off of it, along with the fact that presumably nobody wanted him.
I don’t really have a problem with any of that. But what boggles my mind is that he still gets game time. Absurd.

Another cliché is that a change of scenery would do him good.

Does anyone know if:
A. Southend played a load of reserves
B. Southend played a first team, who are terrible
C. Orient played well tonight
D. A combination of the above

I think part of it was to send a message to other players. Go away, work hard in training, improve your fitness, put hours in to work hard on your game (even though in his case it hasn't helped) and you will be rewarded with gametime.P&O wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:31 pmAgree with this entirely.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:09 pmWhy does Embleton persist in playing him ? Hopefully his woeful performances in the league will show him that really non league is his ceiling and that he'd be better off accepting a guaranteed contract for next season there.

Taylor-Flether and Gnanduillet both proved that there were good footballers in there somewhere. Perhaps Alabi needs a bit of that Blackpool air.

I don’t see anybody having a “grump”. There’s a few individuals having a civilised discussion about the ability of a player but that’s about it. And they’re even managing to do that without resorting to insulting others.
Ironically the only grump here is you, moaning about non-existent grumps.

I don’t think it’s got anything to do with Justin, directly.P&O wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:31 pmAgree with this entirely.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:09 pmWhy does Embleton persist in playing him ? My guess is it’s down to one or two things, or a combination thereof. Firstly, no one came in with a suitable offer so budgetary constraints mean he has to feature. Secondly, Alabi was a Ling and/or Embleton player. Justin was pretty clear on his view of him and made it obvious he had no future here, long before he was transfer listed. I’m not so sure he would have done that if he had chosen to sign Jimmy. Presumably Ling and Ross want to save some face with the board by making him work out.

Re: Tonights game / Match Thread (S'End H)
I think saving face is the last reason it could be. He was signed when we were in non league. The objective was to get back into the league. Naturally doing so provides the perfect opportunity to banish him to Boco Island with the justification that he's not good enough for the step up. That's no disgrace on anyone and with only a year left his contract is hardly an albatross.RedO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 10:02 pmI don’t think it’s got anything to do with Justin, directly.P&O wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:31 pmAgree with this entirely.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 9:09 pm

Alabi: I love his effort, but he just cannot score for toffee. Somewhere along the line in football he made or was encouraged into a choice that was totally wrong for him. He will never be a striker.
