UK Court system
Nothing new to say it's broken but I was due to be a witness in a trial starting next month. Bad enough that the alleged offence took place in September 2017, but it's just been cancelled and rescheduled for OCTOBER 2026.
Absolutely absurd and, tbh, completely unfair on the accused as much as anyone. Can see them scrapping the whole thing at this rate and it's terrifying to think how many others are in this situation, being denied justice or a chance to clear their names for almost a decade. And, of course, the new Govt showing no inclination to actually carry out proper reform required.

So you've already decided they're innocent? Disgusting.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 10:03 am

The court system, law enforcement, education, health, housing, railways, general infrastructure... It's all f*cked. You can see why gilts are going the way they have been.

Re: UK Court system
Had a similar experience recently as a prosecution witness. Gave my statement in 2019 but case wasn't heard until last year. Hung jury in first trial, second trial collapsed. The justice service is in complete disarray.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 10:03 am Nothing new to say it's broken but I was due to be a witness in a trial starting next month. Re: UK Court system
There is no justice system in the UK. We have a legal system. There's a big difference.

Re: UK Court system
I was recently on a jury. The trial needed a translator for the main witness and the accused. It should have taken 5 days. It took 12 days because of the translation. Pathetic

Wasn't it Mussolini who made the trains run on time and Adolf did the Autobahns and extermination camps.

Re: UK Court system
I had the same at Snaresbrook. A Romanian father accused of sexually abusing his own children. Translating every word from and to him doubled court time. It’s common and costs millions more throughout the UK . Is it any wonder our schools and hospitals are underfunded

Re: UK Court system
Curious to understand how much blame is being levelled at non-English speakers for the absolute shambles of our justice system. How much of a factor are you claiming it to be, George?

Re: UK Court system
Proportionate. I expect it’s the same in many European countries. I also believe that not speaking English in a court could help your case . Confusion caused by translation and general jury boredom may be an issue. Just my view having experienced it.Wally Banter wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 2:43 pm Curious to understand how much blame is being levelled at non-English speakers for the absolute shambles of our justice system. Genuinely interested to know if there's a single thing going wrong in this country that can't just be lazily blamed on "forrins".

It’s not lazy but it is part of the problem. We will never be told the enormity of the part or otherwise through fear of lazily being targeted as racistProposition Joe wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 2:57 pm Genuinely interested to know if there's a single thing going wrong in this country that can't just be lazily blamed on "forrins".

You won't be told the enormity of the part or otherwise because then you'd have to find another target ie the wealthy.George M wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 3:01 pmIt’s not lazy but it is part of the problem. Why arent we building what we need? Surely it'd be good for the economy? Or can we just not afford it?

Re: UK Court system
Gave a statement to the Environment Agency in summer 2019 for an environmental case where they said they intended to press charges (not against me, I hasten to add). Chased it up last year just in case the case had been dealt with and my statement/me appearing was no longer needed. I was told that evidence was still being collected due to the complexity of the case and a final decision had not been made yet whether to press charges or not. The incident happened in 2018.
