Re: Spike Milligan was a genius
I read his war trilogy books when I was about 17 which were amusing and then it turns out he was a daft racist.

Re: Spike Milligan was a genius
'Dunno about "genius" but he used to make me laugh. Wife and I went to see him at the Mermaid Theatre (near Blackfriars & now demolished) in "Son of Oblamov". Made bad mistake arriving a minute or two after curtain up and had to suffer wrath of Spike while pinned in the aisle by spotlights. Bit embarrassing. Still, happy memory... not quite enough to let me forget about Stevenage, though.

Loved Spike. Completely and absolutely bonkers but he was indeed a comedy genius in my eyes.

Never been one for "funny" voices. Truly anarchic, though. Always rememner when he called the then Prince Charles an "f ing crawler" to his face..

Re: Spike Milligan was a genius
The writers of this scene were comedy geniuses. The storytelling, the pacing, the back and forth between characters, the imagery through words, the punchline delivery... all within 55 seconds.
