Ritchie says the Training ground is the problem

Costing us £100,000 + a year apparently in injuries because the pitch isn't up to standard. We're saving for a new place by the sounds of it!

Often get people popping up to complain that we're wasting cash on a new training ground, when it seems mad that we don't actually own one, let alone somewhere to train that is fit for purpose for a 3rd tier team.

Upgrades to the existing facility, yeah. And the school there is dragging its heels, so this is all "hurry up and approve the plans please".

This was said during Drinan Smyth & Theo's first in one of RW's older interviews.

Also slightly disappointing to see us moaning about money only ten days into the transfer window.

Not just a training ground for the first team but they want to spend even more on extra pitches for the academy and women's team which will hike the cost up.

Yeah how dare the club try to set a solid infrastructure and facilities for long term success.
In fact, the park is free. We’d be able to afford more teenage loanees if we trained there

I'd rather see improvements that benefit the first team now, have no interest in the academy.

If i remember correctly sometime last season there was an announcement that we'd identified a new training ground or where one could be and were making plans to move there. Then it all went dead.

Hearn is a disgrace for how he left this club, owning no ground, no training ground, cowboy hell bent on making his own pockets deeper

Worked for Brentford, sacked off the academy to focus on the first team and short term success. Got to the Prem and now they have the money for the other stuff

Brentford relatively spent tons on scouting and buying unknown foreign talent, something we don't do full stop really buy players for fees

I'd rather us do that than the academy, the U23 loanees we're taking this season are a better bet, less time spent developing and in some cases half a chance of keeping them too

Ling made a good point about a U21 / U23 B Team a while back though he talked about that alongside the academy whereas the Brentford model replaced it entirely.

The pitches we use are all used by the various old chigwellians teams - and the clubhouse is also still used after matches

Brentford have to scout abroad to pick up talent for the Premier league. We don’t have to to find L1 ready players.

The club are sticking with the academy because they believe it pays off. I don’t have access to figures to prove otherwise. If the alternative suggestion of a U23 B team - which I agree makes sense - was a better bet and easy to operate, everyone would be doing it….

Brentford are not successful because they ditched their academy and it's brain-dead to suggest so.
