If we get promoted surely Richie gets poached by a top end championship side. If rob edwards could get the watford job off one good season with forest green, imagine how valuable richie would be, won the league 2 title and got promoted to the championship on this budget. if we lose richie it will be nigh on impossible to replace him and somehow stay up. Its definitely worth going up - never made sense to want to stay in mid tablr mediocrity forever - theres no real point in football at that point if you have no ambition

This forum is exactly like my wife. She wants the good life and I give it to her - only for her to moan we can't afford it! (PS we still do it anyway!)

Couldn't we just accept we'd get relegated, keep the same squad (excluding any we would have released at the end of the season anyway). And bank the extra cash from it to use in subsequent seasons

The recruitment process has to be better

It’d be a laugh even if we went down straight away

There’s the off chance some geezer with too much dough would see a London based club in the Championship and think we’re a fun way to piss away a lot of money

It ain’t happening anyway so you can all stop worrying about getting smashed by Southampton next season

The one that has given us an unprecedented league winning side twice in the last six years?

We'd get half a new team, same as most summers, probably get relegated again.

But we'd have a year of genuine sell outs of the ground with the whole West Side being an away end. And the extra cash revenue would be enough to then keep us as a top League 1 side.

Maybe we'd then become a bit of a yoyo between league 1 and the championship until we do enough to establish ourselves as a Championship team. Maybe in a decade or so. A bit like a Northampton but 1 league higher.

This is my blue sky thinking.

This is basically what Luton did in the prem. And you can see how little that guarantees you once you're back down.

There's no version of a promotion that doesn't lead to significantly greater losses for us imo. But it'd make Travis's job of securing investment and landing a new stadium easier, which you would assume is a long term positive.

If we had the stadium for it, you'd imagine we'd be capable of getting 10-15k a week in the championship.

Our income would increase by around £7m from EPL solidarity payment and EFL TV money. Plus increases in gate money, sponsorship etc, say £2m.

Game changing money? More attractive to players and business investors?

One left field idea stick with an L1 wage budget and see if you can cheat relegation via underdog spirit and put those extra millions in the bank.

Of course it would more likely lead to a record low points total but keeps finances in check as it's very obvious the board couldn't finance the kind of losses they often post about for Championship sides.

It’s not a guarantee that you’ll be successful if you go straight back down, no - but in terms of running of the club it’s strategically entirely feasible to see promotion as a temporary bonus that will get bigger crowds in and a bit more publicity, to not put all eggs in one basket in an all or nothing “we have to stay in the championship”, and to use it as a way of establishing orient at the next notch above where they have been.
