What would happen if we got promotion?
We'd be financially out of our depth unless new investment was brought in immediately
The club would have to scrabble to build almost an entirely new team
We'd likely be straight back down
So why do we aim for promotion?

Re: What would happen if we got promotion?
If you look at clubs like Wycombe and even Burton Albion, they all managed to hold their own for a time in that league.
You never know, a London club in the Championship may attract some investors with a bigger wallet, would look a potentially attractive offer, London club on the cheap with a chance to be in the Prem!
If we don't look to progress what is the point? we may as well stop playing altogether. I would love to have one season in the Championship and see what happens than to never have got the chance.

Re: What would happen if we got promotion?
We have to scrabble to build a new team every summer. It would be a massive struggle and yes, it would be highly likely we'd come straight back down.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:34 am We'd be financially out of our depth unless new investment was brought in immediately

Your final question doesn't warrant a response.

I don't know, but would imagine Bournemouth fans were asking a similar question not so long ago after being in Administration twice in recent years. Miracles do happen in football now and again

Us fans, or most of us, would feel happy about life. For a while, at least. I have little time for those who think we are happy as we are, let’s not exist beyond our current position.

For a start, showing we have ambition to grow and progress is the only way to keep managers like Richie around.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:34 am We'd be financially out of our depth unless new investment was brought in immediately

Re: What would happen if we got promotion?
Why bother to compete if we don’t aim for promotion? Surely if must be at the heart of our existence to aim to play at the highest levels we can. Yes we would need a major playing overhaul and no I don’t think we would stay up (as a lifelong O I think that at the start of every season - it’s a coping strategy). Financially we would get a short term boost (which may be lost on the additional playing and ancillary costs of being in the Championship) time would tell.
My major issue is that we would be greeting some rather lively fans from a variety of Clubs and security would need to be enhanced considerably. I live in hope that promotion would mean I could get a burger in the West Stand….

Re: What would happen if we got promotion?
That is why Nigel should have been looking for new massive investors since we got back in League 1, it was obvious he didn’t have the money to get us any further without outside massive investors.
We have the right Manager but insufficient investment and if we continue to miss out on play offs/ promotion because of this I don’t think we will be able to keep RW for long.

Straight back down with a record low points total. Only way they stay up is with a new richer owner.

Re: What would happen if we got promotion?
I would love to see us back in the Championship for even one season before I drop off my perch. Not too fussed about the prem (although it would be good!), I would be happy and content to have seen us one last time back where I first saw The O'sFrogger wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:43 am If you look at clubs like Wycombe and even Burton Albion, they all managed to hold their own for a time in that league.

Re: What would happen if we got promotion?
Elon Musk's apparent interest in Liverpool decreases following a visit to the city. He suddenly becomes aware of our success, the nearest club to the city of London, the financial hub of the UK. Using left over 'pocket money ' buys the club. Could you imagine anything as bad as that, probably be worse than the 'mad Italian ' !

Re: What would happen if we got promotion?
As far as this promotion talk goes I see Nigel Travis looking at this prospect as a bit of a dead end. I believe he would like to stay with us for the duration as he loves the club. But knowing we are 'locked in' with our capacity just how much more revenue is he going to generate being in a division higher? Had circumstances panned out in normal fashion Brisbane road could well be hosting crowds of between 10,000 to 15,000 and even up to 20, 000 in the Championship with certain games. Don't get me wrong I would love to see us get promoted and staying in E10 but Nigel must surely be thinking where do we go from here? What's the way out? Only a new ground it seems and then it's a small question of finances and the location. I think it's a massive question mark hanging over the future of our club.
