Darren Pratley

Post by aylesburyos »

Listened to the RW interview on the L O Down podcast. DP has been offered a job to coach some of the academy players next season. Or he can continue as a player (not sure if we will offer a contract as a player?) What do you all think. Personally think he has another year in him. Wonder what he will do?

Would love to think we could get another year out of the old boy but I think he may have had enough . Give him the coaching job .

I think he could def do a coaching role and I think he mentioned a couple of years back that he was doing his coaching badges
Not sure if he could combine it with a playing role but I think he could probably carry on next season as a player alone.

Apart from one season, he has not played less than 20 league games a season since 2005. I not sure if he ever has had a serious injury. It obviously helps.

What clues are there that he’s had enough?

Academy coach salary will be a pittance compared to what he can earn playing, and can still drop down to L2 or NL if he wanted to ease up a bit.

Unless he's on a pay to play contract I can't see it being value for money us as he must be on a good wage.

People continue to underestimate him. He’s been the glue in our team. Definitely worth another year

He was excellent at Barnsley looked more like a 30 year old than a 40 year old, be good for another 12 months, I'm glad we have offered him a coaching role I think he was a shrewd signing by Jacket to be honest.

I think nowadays with all the measurements they do of players fitness it’s easier to gauge if they are still up to it.
And it sounds like Pratts is. Not too long ago one of the coaching staff (RW?) said that Pratts stats were up there with the best.
Ok, it takes longer to recover from injuries.
See where we are end of season, but if the season ended today he looks worth another 1(0) year.

We are so lucky to have him. I am sure he can do another season in L1 if he gets offered it.

He looks fantastic for a 39 year old. A true pro that has looked after himself

While that's true Darren would also make a very good coach . It's for Darren to decide .

Load of rubbish. You don’t know how good a coach he will be. We all know what he brings as a player

I'd have him on our training pitch every single day he can. If that means another year then so be it, although on reduced terms. I'd also give him the type of role Ritchie is thinking about. Prats has shown time and time again that there is no substitute for having some experience about the place.

If he is still performing, why do you want to cut his wages?
