Transfer Window Signings
Would you sign anyone, if so who?
I think with Bury going under, it takes a lot of pressure off. At present I can't see us being any better than lower mid-table, but there is going to be at least one team worse than us.
From the boards point of view that is one objective completed, the second I think would be to create a foundation in the second half of the season for a promotion push the next season. IMO the jury is still out on Ross....not done badly enough to warrant any change now, but not sure I would commit to him being permanent manager at this moment. Perhaps reflected by the coaches McAnuff and Webb we don't have much defensive nous in there.... quite notable that we were poor defensively 2 years ago but bringing in a Premiership quality defender changed that almost overnight, with much the same players as well.
I'd go for 3 players, which perhaps if they do well could see us keep the play-off dream alive until quite late in the season.
1) Left-back, seems silly to not have a proper back-up and Brophy is not that. If we could sign a first-team player, Widdowson would be fine back-up at both left-back and centre-back next year.
2) Cover for Clay/Wright - not sure that Marsh is trusted as he hasn't seen a minute so far, and he won't be here next season. Think there is a still a case for a player who can be a bit more direct than these two. A case like Vincelot, who came in half-way but was a key player the next year.
3) Striker to push the front two - think this is our weakest area. Just look at what other sides have on the bench. Harrold and Alabi are not serious contenders for a starting position. Alabi being de-listed is a gamble that hasn't paid off, should just admit the mistake and subsidise a move elsewhere.
I'd get the kids out on loan if possible, especially Ogie, Kyprianou, Sotiriou as they might be genuine prospects for the side soon. And offload Gorman. If we do get a left-back he would be behind both JMD and Brophy for the attacking midfield spot.

Re: Transfer Window Signings
I can`t see us sign anyone. In realistic terms, we have Happe, Sweeney and Brophy who can all play left back.
In midfield, we have to give Marsh a chance before we bring in another player.
I agree that we can do with another striker, but I can`t see us sign anyone before Alabi has joined another club.

Re: Transfer Window Signings
If they aren’t gonna use sotiriou I think we are a striker short. Same goes for Marsh.
But realistically, as you Bergen said, I can’t see us bringing anyone in. We probably have enough to be mid-table, and I’d we’re struggling in Jan, we have some budget to add a few players.
Not entirely convinced we won’t be flirting with that one relegation spot at points though, tbh.

That is the sad problem Womble - Sotiriou is a striker short.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2019 10:49 am If they aren’t gonna use sotiriou I think we are a striker short. Same goes for Marsh.

Re: Transfer Window Signings
I doubt we'll see any additions before the window closes, but I'm sure they'll be hard at work looking to strengthen the squad either in January or in the Summer.
If I'm honest I think everyone needs to forget about promotion this season, I know we've had a taste of promotion and after what we as fans have been through, oh boy it tastes good. But we need to be realistic, more so after Justin passing, we have new players that are adapting to how we play, whilst getting used to the surroundings. One thing that hasn't changed is we've already seen is that bit of fight that Justin and Ross installed into the team last season and for that reason, unless something significantly changes (and I don't even know what that would be) then we can forget about relegation too.

Re: Transfer Window Signings
So we're 2 points off the play offs & certain boarders are happy to talk about relegation.
EMBARRASSING
I'd like to see another Winger as McAnuff & Dayton stiil aren't fit. Always liked the Halifax lad Kosylo when we played them.

Re: Transfer Window Signings
Yep, sign a 33 year old who has played 18 games in two years.
Brilliant.
Better sign him up before Brentford move in.
Might have to take a drop on his reported salary though.

Nobody will come in. We all know that deep down. We all know we have gaps and they will go empty

May not fit the Brentford model but could fit ours.

Re: Transfer Window Signings
The club is losing money hand over fist. That can only go on for so long.
We manage to somehow lose 1.9 m last year in the non league. That was at least half a million more than what we ever lost in L1 under Barry.
So it’s important that this is addressed.

Re: Transfer Window Signings
The club is overloaded with strikers. Cover at left back and a new right back is a must. Ling’s recruitment is shocking.

Id love the question answered on why Dayton was offered a new contract ?,
Riddled with injuries during his time at the club still out and we are a month
into the new season..
The silence coming out of the club on his return is deafening ...

Re: Transfer Window Signings
Ross has just done an injury update on the club website. All 3 of Turley, Dayton and McAnuff are doing running drills but seems they're still some way off competitive training, let alone match ready.Hedmans Header wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2019 1:02 pm I'd like to see another Winger as McAnuff & Dayton stiil aren't fit.

Did seem a bit of an emotional choice to retain Dayton as we'll see little of him this season I reckon.
As far as LB goes all the cover players are out of position, apart from Sweeney who doesn't seem to be trusted to come in so discount him. A utility LB / CB would be ideal but chances of it happening low to non-existent I'd think.
Similar with sending Alabi out on loan / transfer and getting a more suitable 3rd choice striker in. Harrold did well in his typical impact role yesterday so that area is fine but one injury to Angol / Wilkinson leaves us light there.

Re: Transfer Window Signings
Like Dayton as a guy and a footballer but giving him an extra year seems pretty amiss when we could have used his wage money towards another forward that would have had a full pre season and could be impacting our games now.

Yes mate, 6 strikers vying for 2 positions max. Need more cover there.Lucky7 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2019 12:47 pmBiggles with the wrong goggles it’s becoming a recurring theme on hereBiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2019 12:40 pm The club is overloaded with strikers.
