Re: Do we need MOTD?
Can’t remember the last time I actually watched it, as you say, we are already at ‘saturation’ point with so much Football on TV
It’s a bit irrelevant nowadays and maybe Lineker is going at a good time.

Keep it, its a cue for the missus to go up to bed as soon as she hears the theme tune. It gives me some quality alone time to binge watch Emily in Paris, which I can't admit to watching.

Re: Do we need MOTD?
We need less football on pay TV, removing a terrestrial highlights package would be a very odd move.

Re: Do we need MOTD?
Viewing audiences are around 2 million, but 3 million tuned in that time when there were no presenters or tedious analysis. You would think the BBC might take something from that before handing out another load of our cash to another presenter

Re: Do we need MOTD?
The problem it has that the demograph that watches it is slowly getting older so the viewing figures are slowly getting smaller. Anyone born around the start of the 70's and onwards has grown up used to having to pay a subscription to watch most football.

Re: Do we need MOTD?
Oh come on. The increase was obviously due to the furore around the whole issue at the time. It was an awful watch (the no commentary bit, not the no analysis).
Can you imagine anyone saying, I don’t know, Strictly should sack the tall lady and the orange one and just have the dancing? It’s obviously nonsense.

Re: Do we need MOTD?
I've often wished there was a mute button for certain commentators and their sidekicks which would leave the crowd noise on. A game with no Ally McCoist input would immediately be improved by 100%. I absholutely mean that, I really, really do, by the way

Re: Do we need MOTD?
TV Pundits come in for so much abuse. I am sure that it is more difficult than it looks. We do seem to have a lot of moaners in this country. It is SO easy to be a critic.
I have tried to watch those MOTD Spin-Offs with Jermaine Jenas etc. Could not get on with them.

To be absolutely honest with you I agree. The little weasel has caused a stir in the village with his avaricious property development scheme which of course I am 100% not onside with.

Mrs NES & I watch it once in a blue moon. But it's a tradition, therefore keep it IMO.

Yes, it's needed for the people who don't have instant access to Youtube on their tv or those who dont want to watch highlights on VPN.

Re: Do we need MOTD?
Absolutely yes it needs to stay as it's one of the few programmes left on domestic channels. I don't think it needs a presenter on a 6-figure sum though, stick one of those AI avatars on to introduce each match job done.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 12:16 pmOh come on. Commentary yes we need that but you'd lose precious little if the 20 second intros between games and inane interviews with managers were removed.

If you’re not Sky Plussing it and fast forwarding Shearer’s expert analysis and the post-match tunnel interviews you’re doing it wrong

Always worth watching Gary’s opening one line dig at the pundits but thereafter, FFW straight through to the games.

Re: Do we need MOTD?
I usually watch if I’m at home on a Saturday night (hint: usually) so I can catch up with what all the dorks are getting upset about every weekend. I don’t go to the O’s for quality of the football, so it’s nice to watch a bit of professional stuff without having to pay for cable or satellite.

Re: Do we need MOTD?
People are weird. A decent top level highlights package on free to air.
Me and the missus avoid the prem scores and watch it to make it a bit more exciting. Then we fall asleep after one game and watch it in the morning. Exciting life

Re: Do we need MOTD?
I enjoy being able to watch MotD in order of how entertaining the games are. I can then switch off once I’ve seen the worthwhile highlights. That way I always get to avoid watching Everton - who are my least favourite team. I also tend to avoid it altogether when Liverpool feature prominently - unless they lose or draw that is.
