Richard Kone & other London boys

Post by Lifelongfan »

We repeatedly hear that London is a hot bed for young footballers. Hackney & East London must be full of kids not snapped up by PL clubs. Why did we niss Kone now at Wycombe when he was playing at a low level for Newham. Do we have enough scouts? Would Steve Foster scout at that low level?

There’s so many variables as well as risks involved. Maybe we were in on him? All a bit reductive and simplistic

How wide is our scouting network………..is Steve Foster the only scout we have, if so then it’s no wonder we miss out on good potential players.

I don't know Kone was from the east end, until I heard something in last week's commentary

We probably lose many talented youngsters, because our scouting seems terrible

I've not liked Steve Foster for quite a while because he's not very good in imo

He's not.

I read something about him in the summer, I believe. He's a lad that came across from Europe/Africa and could not get a work permit. Been on Wycombe's radar for a while and trained/trialled there. When he got a work permit they signed him. I guess it was a done deal - but he did spend 2.5 seasons in Newham and scored more than a goal a game.

He's a centre forward as well . Just what we're crying out for now . To think he was right under our nose for over two seasons at Newham . Our scouting system must be non-existent.

That’s what I was asking above,
Maybe Steve Foster is our ONLY scout, in which case, there’s only so many games that he can get to and I wonder if he has anybody passing recommendations onto him.

Premier league & Non league contracts discussed.
I've posted it here just to show its not just scouting abilities, richer clubs can offer seriously daft bonuses to knick a player in your catchment area.

And reported Neymar was getting 200k bonus to applaud fans. Absolutely bonkers what they can get paid

Thanks for sharing this. Fascinating, and just goes to show the ridiculous money youth teams products are on. Literally never heard of this guy and he would be on hundreds of thousands a year. It must be a hell of a hit to them when they leave. You can see why most struggle to perform when they've lost such big financial motivations.

If they are sensible, they can walk away from Footy & be set for life. I've never heard of him either, but it shows they probably don't really care
It also shows how tough is to compete for waifs & strays in the lower leagues
