Interesting.

I think Joker is excellent. I don't care if it's a Taxi Driver rip-off, if it's done really well. And I can give or take all of he Batman films, and am not into these superhero films generally.

Kermode and Mayo both think this sequel is the better of the two films, however it isn't the film fans of the first Joker will want. It's different.
Probably why it's getting mixed reviews.

Watched Wolfs last night. It's just an excuse to have George Clooney and Brad Pitt together, looking very good but slightly older and making quips, which are at best mildly amusing. Not much to write home about, but inoffensive and an hour and half does go by quickly.

The Lehman Trilogy.

A 3 hour play, told in 3 parts, with just 3 actors, on a minimalist stage set, accompanied by a solo pianist, telling the story of the bank. It starts with the arrival of Henry Lehman in New York from Bavaria in 1884 and ends with the bank's collapse in 2008.

It should be a painfully tedious experience. But it is gripping. It is a masterclass in acting, as the trio morph into a range of characters without the aid of any props, costume changes or make-up.

I was apprehensive about spending 3 hours in a theatre (even with 2 intervals), but the pacing and quality of storytelling meant that the time flew by. Incredible stuff and highly recommended.

Now playing until 5 January at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.

Watching a brilliant new British comedy drama on Sky Atlantic called Sweetpea. Very gory but some good comedy moments. Would be interesting to see other boarders comments on it.

Monsters: Erik and Lyle Menendez

True crime drama about the brothers from a wealthy family who shotgunned their parents to death.

Hadnt heard of this story. This is from the same makers of Dahmer series and American Crime Story, both really good and should be watched if you enjoyed this or vice versa.

It does a great job of telling the story without taking a side

Some of it came across a bit comical, like Stepbrothers.

I think justice was served but I'd need to do a bit of reading. It comes down to motive and reliability of witnesses. There just doesn't seem to be much evidence that Dad was sexually abusive and of course Lyle in particular got caught out and seems to be quite the psycopath. And does any of it excuse blowing your parents heads off? Hardly self defence

Joker Folie a Deux

Not great but not bad. It certainly isnt the film anybody wanted, I think people wanted to see anti-hero Joker to break free and continue his chaos. It was watchable but not often entertaining. It is the sad demise of Arthur. I didnt mind the songs but they couldnt brighten a miserable film.

Just watched episode 1 of The Penguin. Liked it. Early days yet but this could be really good.

Now 4 episodes in and completely hooked. Sophia is brilliant.

I really wish they'd drop the whole season for all these shows - I really struggle having to wait for a week (my memory is getting pretty poor) and find it so much easier to binge the whole thing in a couple of nights.

Whizzed through Nobody Wants This on Netflix after Mrs PJ started it and, despite an initial confusion over where Adrian Brody was, actually really liked it. Nice short episodes, pretty funny, pleasant surprise.

Yes, I watched this too,
Lyle comes across as a spoilt nasty brat and the way they killed their parents was truly horrible.
Having said that, some of the sexual abuse they allegedly suffered from their father was horrible, while their mother did nothing to stop it, makes it understandable they they should want their parents dead.
I believe that their case is coming up for appeal soon in California.

Trump biopic “The Apprentice” - 3/10

Full of eye roll moments and cringe shark jumping. Was more about Roy Cohn than Trump in large parts. At least the lead actors kind of looked realistic, except Ivana who was way off.

Very late to the party, I know, but Eric is excellent. Just finished the first 3 eps, really dark and evocative. Old Benedict is pretty good, isn't he?

For anyone interested in another theatre recommendation, I give you The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button.

It's a Celtic musical adapted from the book, not the film, so do not be put off if you happened to watch that and found it disappointing. The story is set in a Cornish fishing village, and the music is top level. I saw this last year at the Southwark Playhouse and thought it was easily one of the best productions from the last few years, so am not surprised to see it get a West End transfer. This will be a big hit and deservedly so.

Top tip - the reason there are so many preview dates (usually you only get a few) is that this is a very technically challenging show for the actors, as they also have to be proficient in playing a range of Celtic musical instruments throughout the performance. Therefore, booking one of the latter performances will reduce the chances of you experiencing any performance hitches.

The only downside is that it's at the Ambassadors Theatre. Your legs, back and buttocks will be in agony.

Saw this yesterday. It's just great.
