I rate Richie highly and think he's a very good quality manager . The real problem is the utter dross he's been given to work with . If anybody is to blame it's the clubs board .
Are you seriously suggesting that Wellens has no say in the signings? He was instrumental in signing Kelman again. That alone calls his judgement into question.
Context is important...
Kelman as one of 3-4 senior pro strikers, perfectly fine (remember he's still our top goal scorer this season)
Kelman as one of 2 senior pro strikers, nowhere near enough
Even if we had Alfie May and Stansfield you can't expect two players to see you through every game. The quality of those who are meant to be challenging the starters is miles off the level
Yup. I stand by what I said back in the summer. Kelman as a signing isn’t that bad.
Kelman as THE MAIN(!) signing of the summer is bad.

Need to play agyei upfront or change the formation 442
Sure he can do that but I don’t think that’s enough. The midfield of Brown and Ball doesn’t work for me. O’Neill needs a different role or take a rest. I still think we have enough in the squad but he needs to try some things. Not unlike when Clare went into midfield and was a revelation.
All the moaning about Wellens when it’s clear this chairman has let him down, look at the squad it’s prob 2nd or 3rd worse squad in the league, it’s got loan players galore, it’s got no experienced back up to come on and change a game, it’s got players like Perkins who are a waste of space.
How many of our squad would get into the starting 11 of another league one team? This is a league 2 squad, and the most important thing that can happen of course would be to try and get results in he next 3 games but if we don’t it needs to speed up that sale process asap, keep Richie get new people in give him the budget we will ok.
Nigel SELL UP ASAP!
All you have written is still down to a tiny budget, Ruel is now earning 40% more somewhere else & he wasn't even great. Average to good at best
Decent L1 players are out of our budget range, we don't have room for expensive so pish is what we get.
All down to a tiny budget, if you think its something else you're very much mistaken.
New Ownership with deeper pockets who aren't crooks is what we need
''New Ownership with deeper pockets who aren't crooks is what we need''
Owners like that are very hard to find especially with so many league clubs losing sackfuls of cash year in year out. We dont even own our own ground and dont have that much to offer any would be future investors. For the moment league two is more our like Os level budget wise.
What did Wrexham have?
The freehold was purchased in 2022 from Wrexham University by the new owners along with the Disney money & their personal wealth.

Richie needs to wake up, he needs to go away from what he says as idealistic plan a football and focus more on how to win games, the current malaise isn't doing his career any good nor Orient
I think you’re right, and it’s a common mistake, people often do it.
You can’t buy a fiesta and drive it like a Ferrari - it will either blow up or embarrass you
Richie has done the FA badges and has a way he wants to work, he’s watched the systems that the premier league top teams operate and thinks that what he wants us to do. But what he seems to be missing is that he’s unable to adapt his methods to the options available.
You can’t make a silk purse from a sows ear, so, you cut your cloth accordingly. If the players you have can’t play the system you want you either need to change the system or change the players, and I don’t see the manager looking to change the system.
Get into the championship and then start to play ‘man city’ style, but at this moment it’s not working, clearly
My thoughts exactly and that is why JE was a better manager than RW. Justin inherited a side that could not play the system Davis had tried to make them play and Justin made the best of what he had and put together a way of playing that made the best use of the available players he had to choose from.
Wellens did exactly the same thing as JE, he steadied a sinking ship that Jackett had lost control of. Got a winning mentality installed & pushed up the league, then won the Title the following season.
Exactly what JE did.

Managers have to adapt. If you can't fit the players into your "dream" system, or, it simply doesn't work, then you have to alter the system to fit the players and come up with something else.
Many a stubborn manager has got their P45 because of being an idealogue and refusing to alter.
Politicians do this also. The current mobs on both sides of the house seem to have set up their ideas when in the 5th form, and though literally Nothing is working, they'll just keep ladling it out as they're too inflexibile (or stupid) to make changes.
Richie needs to alter the style, as, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of madness.
I sincerely hope RW can turn it around.

Ball has replaced El Miz.
Warrington must have been signed as a work in progress but regardless, they play different positions.
This is an interesting one, where was Ball playing yesterday was he the CDM or was Brown doing it?
So potentially we've waited until after the window ended to get a CDM in place, who has has no pre-season. Put that alongside the GK shambles and lack of ST options and it's pretty clear where our problems stem from.

Yes a lack of spendable finance. Reiterating GK Striker shows you still aren't accepting this is due to a tiny budget, we can't blame Nigel for his lack of Money, we can't blame Wellens for 8t either.
Someone commented about good players over the last 22 years, what they are forgetting is Lower league football has changed.
Think of the saying bringing a knife to a gun fight,
Replace knife with millionaire & replace gun with billionaires.
Moneyball is here to stay & we need to jump on the train or drop away like the Bury's Scunthorpe's of the game.

After some tinkering, we seem to have settled - mostly - into a 4-2-3-1 this season. So both Brown and Ball (or Clare) are playing as 4s. Ball was worth waiting for.
All of this - waiting for players to run out of options, shortage of depth, having to loan kids - is caused by our budget constraints.

So explain how other sides in L1 manage to sign a permanent GK if our budget is roughly mid-table?
Is it just lack of budget or budget being used poorly as Richie has alluded to previously?

Because they use loans elsewhere.
Oxford won promotion using loans & Barnsley had plenty, so did Reading last & this season. Keeley will be our number 1 from now on & will do well.
Last year we finished 11th without a striker or goalkeeper we owned.
This year Wrexham have more money than us as do stockport & Bristol Rovers, Stevenage find a way somehow which is probably to do with there Chairmen being based here in the uk
Same with Mansfield, forget about the top 12 our budget is bottom 12. Accept that & see the fact new investment has to be found.
I've posted an idea under the topic Nigel, it might be a bit out there but it's not just repeatedly saying GK CDM & Striker. Stop moaning & come up with ideas to help the club sell itself to new Owners whoever they might be

Yes without a doubt and how is your prediction going that Kelman would score around 20 goals this season ?

There’s “having a say” and there’s having a say only for your boss to say “thanks, but here’s what we’re doing”.
Last time Richie said what he really thought he got a bollocking from Nigel.

Last year's loan GK was a liability too, a proper pro in goal would've been worth another 6-9 points. It's only this season the club managed to sign an even worse one that makes Brynn look like superman in comparison.
That's great Keeley will become #1 so now we're paying a nice chunk of wage for a reserve keeper due to poor recruitment, that's the kind of waste the club can't afford.
First way to sell it is to not drop into League 2, a far less attractive proposition

I think the 20 goal number was posted by someone else but Kelman is still our top scorer...

It's lack of budget more than used badly
Warrington, Perkins, Jaiyesimi, Hemming
All examples of using the budget well?
