A damning verdict of Starmer and his allies, and from a fellow Labour MP, well no longer Labour, wow.

Watch this! I found it quite disturbing how a person voicing his protest at the LP conference was 'man-handled'.
Could that 'man-handling' be deemed an assault?
The person speaking was no threat or physical danger to anyone and he clearly had the right to be there and speak.

You took the words (mostly) right out of my mouth, but it is worth remembering that not all landlords are budding Peter Rachmans.Dunners wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 7:11 pmIf I were Chorizo, this would be my reply:Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 6:27 pmThe property exists.
The person needing a home exists.
Why do you need a middleman extracting profit?
"It depends.
Completely eliminating a middleman implies they have ownership of their home. That come with significant responsibility.
Not everybody has the financial means, mental capability or even the desire to take on that responsibility. So there should always be a rental option, whereby a middleman can take it on in return for some profit.
That middleman could take the form of the state, local authority, charitable trust, institutional investor landlord or amateur BTL landlords. They all have their place.
Out of those options, the last one can be the most flexible (yes, there are upsides too) but also the most risky. Which is why it should not have been allowed to have become the de-facto housing option for the majority of the population."

I saw the video of the incident & there was no assault on him. He was not compliant & aggressively resisted being escorted from the venue. This kind of performative, fake outrage is typical of the privately educated Hooray Henries/Harriets who care mostly about their 5 minutes of spotlight fame..E10EU wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 12:09 am https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... cs-protest

Regarding his right to be there, he obviously had a valid pass, but entry will be subject to the rules of the venue & the event which he was judged to have broken.
I prefer the comedy element of protesting, like when that guy handed Teresa May her P45. Not quite as funny as when the set began to fall apart behind her though

Financial means - I don't understand. How can someone not have the financial means to repay a mortgage, but have the financial means to pay a landlord rent, which will be a higher figure? That doesn't make sense. Sounds like this person needs affordable accommodation provided by the state?Dunners wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 7:11 pm

"House prices are rising at their fastest rate in almost two years, as buyers benefit from lower mortgage rates, Nationwide said..."
The likes of Nationwide and Halifax can be creative in how they interpret and present their summary of market data, and certain journalists and publications are prepared to put a spin on things. The most reliable metric is Land Registry data but even that is going to be, on average, six months behind the trend of whatever is really happening.
Also, just a reminder:

Ah, I see.
"Nationwide announcing last week it would start to offer first-time buyers loans at six times their annual household income."
I believe that Nationwide's earlier statement regarding rising house prices is what is sometimes referred to as "market manipulation".
Also published today: https://www.theguardian.com/money/2024/ ... n-one-year
"Higher interest rates puts further pressure on property market, with overall transactions at lowest level in a decade."

I haven't suggested they can't be, but historical voting trends at GEs would suggest leftism isn't popular in the South. It's essentially Tory & Lib Dem territory.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 9:05 pm Can southerners not be lefties? And what is the wealth threshold?
Anyway, I referenced the ex-Public School posh boy protester using a very thin veneer of socialism to appear fashionable & enjoy his moment of stardom. Not actually a fan of the term 'lefty' (or righty for that matter) as it's a catch-all encompassing a broad range of ideologies/viewpoints.

I’m just fuming it was paid for my a private company rather than out of the tax payers pocket
Re: Labour Watch
Starmer is fuming too, so much so that he's started to pay back money for some of the free gifts he's had, none of which came from the pockets of tax payers. Why is he doing this, it wasn't much money, he should enjoy the privilege.

Not wanting to reduce politics to juvenile superficiality, but have you all noticed that on average the Tory women MPs are more attractive than their Labour counterparts? Could be a vote winner in 2029.
