Lots of recognisable London locations, not just the touristy ones. Remember them filming at the old dog track in Harringay…The Mindsweep wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 10:50 am Watched The Long Good Friday, such a great film. Love Bob Hoskins, never get tired of watching it and Mona Lisa

Couldn’t agree more. The media for a century have ensured the troubles is a one-sided story.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 11:36 pm Last year's BBC documentary series Once Upon A Time In Northern Ireland. Christ. Heavy, heavy going at times but excellent TV and choice of interviewees. Shameful how little we get taught about this part of our very recent history.

Slow horses series 4. Pissed off that it’s only being dropped weekly.

Yeah, we're going to wait until there's at least several episodes to binge on.

Eying up a free trial again in Jan for Slow Horses and new severance (although that’s once a week too)

Space race drama with an alternate timeline, makes a change from the usual take.

Israeli spy on the run in Iran, this is really fascinating and enjoyable.

Yep. Same plan here. Filling the time with Fargo instead. Not sure how that ever escaped me.

Fargo is brilliant. I there's a new season out too, but there's been zero marketing.

If you like the likes of Fargo, give The Patriot on Prime a go. Little fanfare but very enjoyable

Re: What are you Watching Today Part 2
Being the glutton for punishment that I am, I watched the Director's Cut of this. It adds an additional 47 minutes to the running time, and includes scenes that do help to explain a lot of the events in more detail. But, ultimately, it doesn't transform the film into anything remarkable.Dunners wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 12:38 pmI watched this again last night just to see if it was as bad as I recalled.Dunners wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 8:02 am Napoleon
FFS, Ridley.
What a mess of a film. Some okay bits, but this really should have been so much better. A wasted opportunity which, I'm disappointed to say, isn't worth your time or money at the cinema.
Sure, watching on a smaller screen at home will mean not experiencing some of the more cinematic moments, but IMO they simply are not good enough to justify the effort.
It wasn't. It was worse. Not only does it fail to deliver in any historically accurate sense, but the battle scenes are actually pretty crap. I've seen far better CGI efforts in Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.
If you haven't watched it yet and intend to do so, then I'd suggest the Director's Cut over the original release. But you'll still be disappointed (only less than you otherwise would have been).

Re: What are you Watching Today Part 2
F*ck knows. I find Napoleon to be a fascinating historical character and enjoy reading about him. It's never going to be realistic to try and tell his story through a single film, as there's just too much to tell. But I think a decent film is possible, and I really wanted this to be that film. But it isn't.
I think for a single film to work it would have to focus on an aspect of his story instead of trying to be a biopic. Maybe one day someone will make a decent series, which can take more time and get into the detail.

There was a guy on GBeebies or the other one, fuming that the Sheriff of Nottingham was gay in the new series. (I kid you not). Wait until her finds out that Robin Hood wears green tights.

The Sympathizer - Sky Atlantic/Now/HBO
Limited series set during the end/aftermath of the Vietnam war about a double agent. Downey Jnr gives the kids films a rest and does some proper acting, playing about six different characters. Pretty good stuff 7/10

Re: What are you Watching Today Part 2
New series of Slow Horses hitting the spot again. Basically Spooks meets The Thick Of It.
Tried getting into Kaos but it's a bit too pleased with how clever it is setting up a modern telling of Greek myths and setting up multiple strands of narrative to actually get to the point of the plot. Jeff Goldblum is great fun as Zeus though.
Thought I'd give Rings of Power another go but it remains absolute garbage.

The original was very good. Probably worth seeing how it compares as James McAvoy is always a good watch.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2024 4:19 pm Speak no evil- really good, tense psychological thriller. 9/10
