Probably more aware of the climate deniers as they're never off the TV, radio, internet and papers.

Re: Just Stop Oil
Good point.
What with all the action being taken to combat these issues, they should just shut up, stop disturbing people going about their everyday business and get back to spending their trust funds.

Re: Just Stop Oil
If the argument is that the sentences are too harsh, then I agree.
But, a lot of the bleating over the last couple of days has consisted of disingenuous comments such as "it was just a Zoom call", or "they were just planning a traffic jam". It was more than that, and they fully intend to do more.
A jury of their peers heard the evidence of their conspiracy, and the impact this had on others, and saw fit to find them guilty. So, with that aside, if we think that 4 years inside is too much (5 for Hallam), then what would be reasonable? And bear in mind that they have multiple prior convictions and tried to turn the court proceedings into a circus.
Personally, I'd have given them 18 months (out after nine on good behaviour) including the possibility of spending part of that wearing a tag and under house arrest.

Re: Just Stop Oil
Judge Dunnem gets my vote.
I don't think you'd have got much bleating if Lord Heehee or whatever his name is had dished out a realistic sentence like that.

Actually, having given it more thought, I'd insist that Cassie spends at least a year inside. that way her brother can enjoy his wedding without that sourpuss turning up and negging everyone out.

Roger Hallam's view of what will happen in the next few years when society collapses due to climate change.

I knew someone who joined Xtinction Rebellion but left because they didn't like the cult vibe. Funnily enough he had a trust fund.

Re: Just Stop Oil
Of course the main argument is about the severity of the sentences. The JSO protesters knew there would be a punishment, and there should be, but 4 and 5 years is absolutely ridiculous a sentence. What this is really about is the denial of peaceful protest and discouraging it by giving out ludicrous prison sentences to protesters. I don't agree with JSO on many points but that's almost irrelevant. The previous Tory Government was doing it's damnedest to ban protests and I hope to see Labour revoke some of the restrictions that the b*stard Tories brought in.Dunners wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 11:43 am If the argument is that the sentences are too harsh, then I agree.

Just out of interest, and without any link to the JSO movement, do you believe in the concept of damaging Climate Change.Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 1:25 pm Hyperbolic cult leader preys on thick people with access to capital and convinces them to break the law in the name of their apocalyptic cult![]()

Good. So how would you put pressure on Government and the public as a whole to take it seriously and take immediate and radical steps to slow it down.Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 5:12 pmDefinitelyBoniO wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 4:13 pmJust out of interest, and without any link to the JSO movement, do you believe in the concept of damaging Climate Change.Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 1:25 pm Hyperbolic cult leader preys on thick people with access to capital and convinces them to break the law in the name of their apocalyptic cult![]()

You’re assuming we have entirely the same definition.BoniO wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 5:14 pmGood. So how would you put pressure on Government and the public as a whole to take it seriously and take immediate and radical steps to slow it down.
Also I assumed in good faith this had no link to the JSO movement’s actions like you said

Re: Just Stop Oil
It has no link to JSO. I'm simply wondering what action you'd suggest to highlight the need to take immediate action to slow climate change.Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 5:16 pmYou’re assuming we have entirely the same definition.

Sure….. you’ve not even defined what you’re asking about and you immediately pivoted to a default position based around a preset held view.BoniO wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 5:23 pmIt has no link to JSO. You’re clearly not bothered about a discussion in good faith so I won’t bother engaging again until you are.
If all you want to do is defend this bloke’s cult I suggest you head on over to Twitter.

Re: Just Stop Oil
Is chucking a load of soup around and blocking the roads going to get "the public as a whole to take it seriously and take immediate and radical steps to slow it down"?
