No more FA Cup replays
As of next season there will be no FA cup replays from the first round proper onwards.
Absolute nonsense which will completely ruin the competition for lower league clubs. This is being done purely for the benefit of top tier teams who want to clear their fixture lists.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
I was just thinking about our depleted overstretched squad this season due to injuries . Less games for tired players to play .The Reverend wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 12:29 pm As of next season there will be no FA cup replays from the first round proper onwards.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
Sensible decision, even worse when it was endless replays if needed.
I'm still convinced our near promotion season in the 70's was ruined by the Portsmouth cup games.
The FA Cup has gone from having some of the best crowds of the season to the worst.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
I know, lets only have Premier League matches & a Euro Super League. Can make some real money that way.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
I’m instinctively against this, but the one thing that’s making me think it might not be a bad idea in practice (even if the motivation for it is sh*t) is that in recent years, my perception is that in sporting terms, the replay is where bigger teams grudgingly take a tie a bit more seriously, and end up blowing away lower league opposition.
Could this potentially force big teams to take it seriously from the start, or, alternatively (and even better) mean that when big clubs use their squad players in cup ties, they face a greater risk of a cup exit if the tie has to be decided on the night?

No, just a draw. The FA are hoping there won’t actually be any more draws, because there’s no provision whatsoever for this eventuality

Re: No more FA Cup replays
I’m against it in principle but it could save lower and non league teams money playing replays against similar level clubs.

This is exactly what it will do in rounds 1 and 2.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 2:03 pm I’m against it in principle but it could save lower and non league teams money playing replays against similar level clubs.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
Another reason why the Premier league needs a regulator. Also Uefa need sorting out its because of their relentless cash grab and flogging players till they drop.the Premier league had no other way to fit the additional games in due to Uefas expansion of the Champions league etc next season.

Will actually make attending these games more attractive imo. Just need to make a Champions League spot for the winner, to restore it to its full glory.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
You could look at it that way or another way is the amount of games Orient could play in a seasonJimbO wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 3:42 pm Another reason why the Premier league needs a regulator. 46 league games, 3 EFL trophy, 1 FA cup and 1 league cup. That’s 51 games guaranteed with smaller squads than the Premier League. If Orient got to the EFL trophy final, that becomes 56 games. Then add on any cup run with possible replays.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
Cancelling replays in Round 1 and Round 2 has nothing to do with the Premier League and their wishes.JimbO wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 3:42 pm Another reason why the Premier league needs a regulator. This is a good thing.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
I'd do away with extra time, go straight to pens if it's a draw at the end of full time.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
Apparently efl clubs weren't even consulted on this charge and were pretty much blindsided with this. Crackers approach from the prem clubs given the threat of the football regulator being introduced and how much that owed to the epls inability to come to a deal with the efl without external pressure.
Really wouldn't be surprised if this gets walked back. Lower league fans will hate it and this is possibly the first time they've ever had any political influence.

Why bother with the initial 90 minutes ? Go straight to penalties and if it’s 5-5 toss a coin to see who goes through!Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 4:17 pm I'd do away with extra time, go straight to pens if it's a draw at the end of full time.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
It immediately removes one of the good possible outcomes from drawing a big side in R3 onwards.

Re: No more FA Cup replays
So we get a draw at Old Trafford, but no longer get the money from a replay at home and maybe money from being on the tv

Re: No more FA Cup replays
More greed and corruption at the very top of the game. Solely done so the big clubs can play more European games.
All it means now the big clubs will name their big game players on the bench and bring on 5 first teamers in extra time to blow away a lower club threatening an upset.
For smaller clubs that missing TV and gate money from a replay could be the difference between staying afloat for a few years or going under. Disgraceful from the FA but wouldn't expect any less from them, not fit for purpose.

Or the other way around no big day out for fans now if you hold them at home.Story of O wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 6:21 pmSo we get a draw at Old Trafford, but no longer get the money from a replay at home and maybe money from being on the tv
