Why do you have to make such a song and dance over this ,just get over it and move on .CEB wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 4:45 pm It’s weird to have a club statement that “we have no place for racism here” when they’ve just signed a player who was released for being racist.
Call me cynical, but it’s unfair and not neutral to ask existing players for their opinion about a signing like that - if the players get the impression that their opinion is immaterial to whether he’s signed, then there’s a bit of contextual pressure there.
Not saying that the guy should under no circumstances be considered for Orient - just that if you’re signing a player who did what he did, you should probably have the balls to admit that it reflects badly on a commitment to being against racism

Re: New signing - Jack Simpson
The way I see it, Simpson has been training with the team for three weeks now and played in a behind the scenes friendly last week, so if the likes of Beccles, Pratley, Forde and El Mizoni who is the nearest player to an Indian in our team, had any reservations and are not happy about the club signing Simpson I am sure we would of seen a different reaction in the games during this period but as we have witnessed the team is still as tight and happy as it was last season.
I think some on here are making more of this than what it is and I am sure the club and Ritchie would of thought long and hard before signing Simpson on.

Really fantastic of the club to wait a couple of days after Nigel and Devlin’s Q&A to announce this. Knowing full well what was coming. The mask is slowly slipping from this lot. Absolutely disgraceful.

The club including the players and RW are in agreement with the signing, I trust their judgement, up the O’s.

Don't know of Simpson or what exactly he's done but it seems a bit much to expect him to never play football again if it's over making one racist remark.

Right. So the question becomes “how long should a player be unemployable after an incident of this kind?”Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 10:48 pm Don't know of Simpson or what exactly he's done but it seems a bit much to expect him to never play football again if it's over making one racist remark.

It's not 'facile bollocks'. At least give the bloke another chance. I remember being a bit hesitant about the cricketer Ollie Robinson being selected for England after racial abuse. I haven't heard another word about any misdemeanours from him since. Maybe he's learnt the lesson, and maybe, just maybe he's a changed person on the subject of racism.CEB wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 5:39 pm “Everybody deserves a second chance” is facile bollocks.
This is a guy with no obvious track record of being a particularly good footballer, no history of even playing regularly enough to be considered a reliable player, who has been signed despite a recent instance of pretty shocking racism, which he admitted.
It seems to me unlikely that this signing is worth the trouble
It's all too easy just to say' 'it's facile bollocks'.

I expect him to make genuine reparations for whatever he’s done. Not just a ban and a fine.

Re: New signing - Jack Simpson
If I remember correctly Prince Harry, in addition to wearing a swastika to a party, once called a colleague a "kapi" in quite a derogatory way. I wonder who would describe Harry as a racist now. If I called someone " stupid, fat and ugly, it is pretty insulting but should I be castigated for the rest of my life. We have all done things we regret. When I watched the video I thought, what could he possibly have done? Violent assault, domestic violence, death or injury by drink driving, murder. No none of those, he said one nasty or insulting word to someone because of his background and he was drunk or hungover. He has been punished, so hopefully he has learnt an important lesson and can move on with playing football.

Re: New signing - Jack Simpson
Robinson is a fair example but the circumstances aren't exactly the same since his investigation and time away from the team was due to stuff he'd said years earlier as a much younger person, not a few months ago as a 26yo in his last job. I'm not saying we shouldn't have signed him, just that there aren't many similar situations I can think of like this so the Club will presumably have factored in the fact they're probably going to get a fair bit of flak.Chief crazy horse wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 11:24 pmIt's not 'facile bollocks'.
