Chestnuts used to be a great pub for post-school underage drinking.

The Wakefield Arms -Park Road , The Lord Clyde - Capworth Street...Tommy Taylor's dad was the landlord if I remember correctly. The Drum and The Greyhound - both Lea Bridge Road , The Holly Bush and before my time there was a pub in Church Road called the Osborn Arms...made way for the Leyton Grange estate in the early 60's.

The Greyhound in Lea Bridge Road. O's players used to collect their wages from there whilst playing at Lea Bridge Stadium

Google tells me it was formerly The Alma so we're thinking of the same place just under different eras.

Re: Pubs that are no more in Leyton
It was the new name of The Alma in Church Rd.
Some names there that bring back memories.
Lord Clyde had a horrible outside toilet in the side turning that the Advance laundry was in.
Jointly owned at one time by TT and Tommy Cunningham, pub not the laundry
I lived in Vicarage Road so all those pubs were in easy walking distance, been in them all.
