Brynn. 7.5 How do you rate that performance? Kept us in it with a string of saves and then comes out and got nowhere near a long ball for the first goal.
James. 7.5. Excellent again. Strong defensively and hardly gave the ball away.
Beccles. 7. Not sure who left two untracked runners for the second goal.
Happe 6. Injured.
Gailbraith. 7.5. Find of the season. Causes all sorts of problems when he brings the ball inside and attacks with pace.
Brown. 6. A little off it today and like a few of our players, looked really tired.
El Miz. 6.5. Great first half then disappeared in the second. Playing Tuesday, Saturday not easy especially when the Saturday game is against a decent side who had the week off.
O’Neill. 6. Thrown in at the deep end and did ok. We missed Theo though.
Moncor. 6.5 Great run for the goal and we really missed him in the second half but we have a player that just can’t last past 60 minutes and is probably our highest earner. Whatever way you slice it, that’s not good enough.
Forde. 6. He more than anyone looked totally exhausted. Was running in treacle until he was subbed.
Ruel. MOM. 7.5. I am his biggest critic but worked his socks off today and scored. Can’t ask for anymore.
Subs. Cooper. 7. Good game. Will have to see the second goal back and if there was any blame. Pigott 4. Shocking. Pratley. 6.
Wellens. 6. Will be gutted but in the cold light of day, they were better than us especially in the second half.
Barnsley. 7. Never gave up and certainly one of the better sides in the division.
Ref. 6. No idea why there bloke was sent off.

Would be a 9 or even 10 before the mistake, 7 after it as unfortunately that was the game changer.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 6:00 pm Brynn was worth a 9 today, Beccles 6, Moncur 7....the rest I agree with the OP

Re: Ratings
Brynn put in a man of the match performance. I’ll need to see it back before making a judgment on whether he made the wrong decision to come out for their equaliser. He was nowhere near it though.
The problem today is that we went defensive with about 30 mins to go. When Pratley & Hunt came on it was clear we were trying to hold on to a 0-1. No way you’re going to last that long against a decent side like Barnsley away from home.
Regarding Moncur, if you include his little spell of brilliance in the first half today we’ve probably had about 45 mins of decent football out of him in the whole season so far.
As for Pigott. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt earlier in the season, but that guy is absolute cack. And I’m starting to think he’s a bit lazy as well. One point in the second half he falls on his arse, stays down, and then we break. He gets up proceeds to jog at a leisurely pace. You want your man leading the line to be busting a gut in that situation.
I’m hearing that Theo is out of the season now alongside Agyei. Happe’s injury looked bad today. Our lack of squad depth is going to seriously start to cause issues from now on in.

Re: Ratings
Thanks dogs, apart from Brynn I thought James had a good game. We played Vale only a couple of days ago and the team looked knackered to me. However they should have got at least a point against ten men knackered or not. Not having Happe in the middle and pratley and Pigot well as someone said lack of squad depth unfortunately.Beradogs wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 5:51 pm Brynn. 7.5 How do you rate that performance? Re: Ratings
Most people give players credit when they play well and put the boot in when they don't. Moncur showed class today setting up the goal, having played well the previous two matches, but feel free to slag him off regardless of whether he plays well or not. I assume you wouldn't start him in our next match ?The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 7:59 pm Regarding Moncur, if you include his little spell of brilliance in the first half today we’ve probably had about 45 mins of decent football out of him in the whole season so far. continue

We have a situation where he didn’t put in a decent performance until Jan, despite being available all season and even then he can’t last beyond 60 mins (in which we get about 15-20 mins of good football followed by fading away quickly).
If this were a fringe squad player or a youngster I’d be here saying how promising this is. But the reality is that this is one of the highest earners at the club and a senior pro experienced at higher levels than league 1. He’s not even that old. He’s 30, and yet we get more consistency out of 38 year old Darren Pratley.

The fact we’re all grateful he’s actually made an assist yesterday says it all.

Re: Ratings
The thing we actually loose with moncur going off isn’t his creativity, it’s his hold up play. He holds the ball up better than Ruel or Pigott and it’s hard to get it off him. Multiple times in the first half he held onto it for a few seconds to allow us to get up the pitch and relieve some pressure, even if he then passed backwards. When he went off we missed it massively

The problem is what he does - or rather doesn’t do - when we’re out of possession, not when we’re in possession.

I put in the match thread yday, at HT what do you do. Stick or twist? They had a lot of space in midfield which we could have cut off by bringing on Pratley. But when we did we lost the hold up play and relieving the pressure.
Bit of a wild idea but I wouldn’t mind seeing Moncs as a number 9, if Ruel is out with sanders or Forde in the 10 role. He ain’t gonna win much in the air but is a lump that defenders won’t like dealing with and can hold up the ball better than anyone at the club

To be fair, Piggot isn’t a whole lot more mobile.
We may have to be that creative if the injury list is as bad as it seems.

Re: Ratings
Agree. For some reason many on both forums have it in for Ruel. Yes again a half chance in the last game that hit the bar, some go in some dont ! At least he is not scared to have a go and the hard work he puts into games this season goes unnoticed by many of his ''one eyed'' critics !Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 4:31 pmPsssst Sid, don’t tell anyone, I agee with you, it was a fantastic first-time finish, I’m just taking the mick out of all those berating him for smashing a similar chance against the bar last game.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 4:28 pmNonsense, it was a half chance for Ruel which he took well.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 9:53 am

Re: Ratings
Only just seen the highlights and what a great run and cross from Moncur to set up Ruel for our goal. What a pity he just can't see out 90 mins!
