You can’t throw most of your team under the bus like that and expect to carry on. Ridiculous behaviour.

Re: Troy Deeney - sacked
Had also just been given a 4 match touchline ban meaning that if he hadn't been sacked, after it was served he'd have been banned for 40% of his games in charge.
Just seems to have been wholly unsuited to the role.

That's from the John Sitton Book of Football Management.
And is that shorter than Carl Fletcher was with us?
But it just goes to show how fickle footy can be. Runaway with a League 2 title, relegated the next season and now possibly a second relegation in two seasons.

Re: Troy Deeney - sacked
Deeney has been at FGR as a player/ coach since August. He only took the managers job on 20 December. I think both he & Fletcher lasted 29 days but Fletcher had fewer games before being axed.EliotNes wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 3:36 pmThat's from the John Sitton Book of Football Management.

Hopefully it’s been a steep learning curve for him and he’ll be better of for it. Bizarre appointment for a team fighting relegation, someone with no experience to be thrown into a pressurised environment

Re: Troy Deeney - sacked
No surprise. I've always suspected a bad attitude from him. Sounds a bit like like the old Glen Hoddle ego scenario: ' I'm your manager and you should remember I was a much better player than any of you lot....'
And that's the reason Hoddle wasn't a much better manager than he should have been.

It wouldn’t surprise me if people said exactly the same thing about us during our last season in the Beelzebub era

Re: Troy Deeney - sacked
I think Fletcher was the same (29 dqys). Why FGR appointed Deeney in the first place for a League 2 relegation dog fight is pure insanity. Vance is horrible too and I would be very pleased to see them go back to non-league.EliotNes wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 3:36 pmThat's from the John Sitton Book of Football Management.

The only differences is that, at that time, we had never been a non league team and we had never been owned by a nutter.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2024 4:58 pmIt wouldn’t surprise me if people said exactly the same thing about us during our last season in the Beelzebub era

Is it just me or does FGR's owner have massive parallels to Droylsden's owner (AND manager) Dave Pace?!

silly sausage of a bloke and no doubt be back on Sky in five weeks telling experienced managers where they are going wrong
