Ratings.
Brynn. 8.5 Commanded his box well. Saved a pen. They didn’t do much else to trouble him
James. 8.5. Was superb. Always in the right place at the right time to clear the ball.
Beccles. 8. Centre halves had Bishop in their pocket.
Happe. 8. One dodgy header backwards but nothing got past him.
Galbraith. 8.5. Loving this new position for him. They had some decent wingers and he never gave them an inch. Always a threat when heading in the other direction.
Theo. 8. Put in a shift as always. Couple of decent long range efforts.
Saunders. 8.5. All one touch pass and move Inniesta like. Great ball for our first goal
El Miz. 7.5. Perhaps not at his imperious best but still played well.
Brown. 8. Aggressive and always involved. Scored.
Forde. 8.5. Scored and gave them headaches all afternoon.
Agyei. 9. MOM. What a difference it makes when you have someone to hold up the ball, he is one tough hombre. Scored a nice header from a corner.
Subs. 7. Shored it up in the second half.
Wellens. 9. We completely outplayed the top of the league.
Portsmouth. 6. Poor but it was more to do with how well we played.
Ref. 6.

Re: Ratings.
Galbraith played RB for us ages ago and had a great game, I did wonder why he didn't get another go there.

Re: Ratings.
Everyone played well today. You don’t trounce the league leaders at their place if they don’t.
But special mentions to Galbraith and El Miz who were both sensational. That’s the best I’ve ever seen Idris play in the 8 role.

Re: Ratings.
Think we should persist with Gailbraith at RB. He’s looked shambolic at times in midfield but is clearly a player. Playing at full back gives him a bit more space to spin in those balls over the top he’s very good at.
Funnily enough, I thought Ageyi was pretty anonymous for the first half hour and ran into some dead ends but his quality is clear to see.
Thought Happe was very very good today. Got in the way of everything. Hopefully he’s adapted to the level

Re: Ratings.
The best all round performance I've seen from the Os for many moons.
The defence, midfield and attack were all spot on and I especially liked it that we continued to try and score in the final 20 & 10 mins, despite being 3-0 up.
And 10 out of 10 to Simon Royce who gave some strange signal to Sol Brynn, which I'm assuming was which way to dive for the penalty kick. Who needs a set-piece coach when we have Simon.

Re: Ratings.
Said this after the Cambridge game, are we a better side without Ruel in the team?
Sanders seems to shore us up whilst also being able offer attacking output and frankly despite seeing very little of him this year, we always seem to look a better side with him in the team instead.

Re: Ratings.
Only watched the stream but looked like we went with 2 8s rather than a 10.
But yes, that is probably our best starting XI.

Re: Ratings.
Yes, as Agyei is far better at holding the ball up, in fact he's the only striker we have who has the pace, strength and technique to do that role. Forde is a better finisher and gets past people better than Ruel, a very well taken goal yesterday.Jman wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 9:32 am Said this after the Cambridge game, are we a better side without Ruel in the team?

I would imagine it will be the same starting eleven against Bolton on Saturday .Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 9:51 am Only watched the stream but looked like we went with 2 8s rather than a 10.

Re: Ratings.
Bit daft saying Shaq is a better finisher than Ruel.
Thought Ruel looked really good when he came on yesterday. Was nice to see him back from injury so quickly.

Me too. I like Ruel, he works so hard, chasing every lost cause, worrying defenders.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 10:01 am Bit daft saying Shaq is a better finisher than Ruel.

Re: Ratings.
Sanders certainly seems worth the wait..
Such a better team with him in it whether
that be from taking corners, mopping up
in defence or driving the side forward..

Re: Ratings.
The only way we can get the best out of Ruel is to play him in a front two, imo his control is poor and he can’t lead the line on his own and Wellens doesn’t play a front two,if we had an offer for him I would bite your hand off. Sorry to disagreeComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 12:39 pmMe too. Good luck finding an equal replacement for the same price.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 1:24 pmThe only way we can get the best out of Ruel is to play him in a front two, imo his control is poor and he can’t lead the line on his own and Wellens doesn’t play a front two,if we had an offer for him I would bite your hand off. More than happy to have him in the squad as cheap cover for the front 4 positions, coming on as sub when we need a goal or fresh legs or to rest up others tired legs.

Plenty more fish in the sea, if Stevenage can find players so should we with a bigger budget.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 1:32 pmGood luck finding an equal replacement for the same price.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 14, 2024 1:24 pmThe only way we can get the best out of Ruel is to play him in a front two, imo his control is poor and he can’t lead the line on his own and Wellens doesn’t play a front two,if we had an offer for him I would bite your hand off.
