What’s really concerning is Chesterfield are not good, but we are worse.

Last season Moncur meant we had someone from midfield who could carry the ball into the final 3rd. Smyth meant we had someone who could stretch defences. The former making himself unavailable by being unable to get fit and the latter leaving has meant we are missing two key players for the system Wellens plays.

Wellens is partly accountable for the fact we have so many central midfielders, almost none of whom can attack, but the injuries have been horrendous.

The injuries haven’t been horrendous. No more injuries than just about every other team will get in a season.

Losing our main two wide signings in a system based on wingers is sh*t luck. And nearly everyone has been out injured at some point, which makes consistency a real issue.

I think Sanders might work out as a decent signing but in hindsight he was an unnecessary one. We have loads of depth in that position but barely any up top.
