Well I feel the time is right to admit my holiday was not an unqualified success. There were a few sunny, quite warms days & my dog Filou got a few swims in the sea. But some days were very cold, with a fierce wind. I got some nice video shots of the waves at West Wight, but it was a matter of dodging the driving downpours. When you drive across the misty downs in driving rain, it can be a depressing place. I had to send off for another Aran pullover to lift my spirits as it was so bloody cold.
We had a couple of decent meals at the Spyglass at Ventnor, Filou poised under the the table ready to pounce on any morsels of food. We even had lunch one day on the sun terrace. There is also a wicked ice cream place at Ventnor & I savoured more than a few tubs of rum & raisin.
But to cap it all, my dog has occasional bouts of pancreatitis ( and she has never had a gin & T in her life ). 4 days before we were due to go home, Filou woke me at 5.30 by the bedroom door. At first I thought she had heard other holidaying dogs on the prowl. But there was a look of urgency on her face & so I rapidly donned my shorts and got her out real speedo for a comfort break. I then thought this is it. 'Orrible weather & the possibility of my dog bringing disgrace on the Evans family, we decided to cut & run. The sexy owner of the hotel, Karen, ( one of it's attractions ), couldn't have been kinder. She gave me a full refund for days lost & even made speedy reservations for the ferry home at her reduced rates. So glad my dog has impeccable manners even when under the weather.
So did your holidays live up to your expectations?

I went to Greece in May for a fortnight, Stoupa on the Peloponnese Peninsula. Went to Dublin for my brother's wedding in July. Going to Cala D'or in Mallorca, Monday week. A few day's in Valencia with my pals in November. I don't do too bad.

Heading to Mallorca for a week on Monday. The weather looks the business.

Planning next July’s long weekend in Edinburgh already. Looking forward to that trip enormously.
