I got rid of my car 3 years ago because I didn’t need it. I’ve done my bit.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 2:14 pmLong as its someone elses car thats taken off the road, youll be ok with that?BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2023 2:10 pmI don’t agree with it but isn’t akin to being under communist rule. There are far too many cars on the road now, something needs to be done about it.
Also whats 'too many cars'?
As in, compared to 10 years ago, the traffic in Waltham Forest is ridiculous. People are making journeys they just don’t need to make.

Re: ulez
Having lived in the area around ground for all my life I noticed in recent years a substantial reduction of traffic in Leyton High Road throughout the day and an easier route than the rat runs , many of which do not exist anymore.
I miss Percy Ingles on my way to a match as I used to get a cheese roll for half time as do not like any of the stodge they sell at ground and the rolls are normally gone in the Supporters Bar

Maybe that’s the aim here? As Spike has already pointed out, a blanket ban on old grids would bring hellfire down on Khan’s head. Surcharging the worst polluters is currently a reasonable way to encourage owners of such cars to get shot. As another poster has already mentioned, it doesn’t cost a fortune to get an Ulez compliant car.

Its not what i think, its what people who know what their talking about, and Ive read a few accounts from these people saying it wont make much difference.
Even the most polluting cars are not that polluting, as they were say 30 years ago. Cars are cleaner than they have been in recent history.
I genuinely believe the amount of pollution removed will be minimal, and the cost is astronomical
Re: ulez
The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) has found that Sadiq Khan misled Londoners about the benefits of ULEZ in TFL and GLA adverts.

Claims made about pollution reduction were based on models and not actual facts. Same for claims about deaths related to pollution.
TFL have dismissed Khan's lies as "minor technical points".

Sadiq Khan made the advert did he? Any reason you're focussing on him?faldO wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 1:23 pm The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) has found that Sadiq Khan misled Londoners about the benefits of ULEZ in TFL and GLA adverts.

If you dont believe that reducing journeys made by the most polluting vehicles reduces pollution then...
Lets face it, this country has a lot of selfish people in it who are not willing to do anything at all for the greater good.
Racists will hate Khan whatever he does.
Re: ulez
Khan would have signed off on the adverts, and the messages in them are ones he has conveyed on more than one occasion.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 3:55 pmSadiq Khan made the advert did he? And of course reducing journeys made by polluting vehicles reduces pollution.
The issue here - upheld by the ASA - is that the adverts were misleading. They claimed something which was either not factually correct or which was not proven.
If you're just focussing on the "Khan lies'" part of what I said, then we can argue as to whether he "lied" or "misled", with a bit of journalistic license thrown in. But ultimately he is responsible for ULEZ and the millions of pounds spent on it. He's happy to claim credit for it, it's his baby, he says that in his biography.
Most likely racists will hate Khan whatever he does. But if your point is that "any criticism of Khan must be racist" - together with what you imply with the statement "Any reason you're focussing on him" - it's a pretty poor one.

Re: ulez
Even if the ads are misleading the fact remains that getting rid of fume-belching old grids or, at least, reducing their useage is going to improve air quality.
Is that such a bad thing to aim for?

Re: ulez
Lets look at the 'lie'
I doubt Khan oversees tfl's marketing dept, but as mayor he takes overall responsibility.
I see conspiracy theorists like Piers Corbyn and other nutters in a right froth over this- and i do think there is a far right element to it, cameras vandalised, protests etc and its all in the name of selfish motorists which we've given over much of this country to.
There's no war on the motorist, they've been waging war on everyone else for a century.
This does not seem like a big deal. You agree that pollution will be reduced by ulez. NO2 is a particular pollutant and there will be other factors at play also. I'd be interested to see the actual figures a couple of years down the line. The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said claims made by Transport for London (TfL), which runs Ulez, that levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) had reduced by almost half as a result of the scheme were not based on measurements of air quality taken before and after it was implemented, as listeners of the radio ad might expect.
Instead, TfL based its claim on calculating the difference between current air quality measurements and a “non-Ulez scenario”

Dark times we live in when mainstream political parties are running networks of Facebook groups to stoke hatred and conspiracy theories.
