Why Should We Improve?
Playing Devils advocate here........again, but as the thread says, why should we improve?
What can change, that will make us improve and win games on a regular basis?
We cant bring in anyone new for four months, so we're stuck without a decent goalscorer again, the defence is leaking more than a rusty old bucket, so what can happen to change whats been happening?
Any suggestions anyone?

Re: Why Should We Improve?
Actually it’s a very good question, negative is as you say,the positive is we have a good manager, good ball players and a youngish team willing to learn. Richie has to adapt to the opposition more, take note of the scouts reports more, be willing to change formation and styles and try to be a little bit more robust. Bring in a decent forward in January if we are still out of the bottom four and possibly see if Harry Kane is home sick and is available for the second half of the season on loanComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 9:52 am Playing Devils advocate here........again, but as the thread says, why should we improve?

We could play like we did 8 days ago, which was the best footballing performance I've ever seen from an Orient side.

Re: Why Should We Improve?
I don't think a shaky start to the season undoes the excellent previous 18 months we've had under Wellens. He needs to get more out of the squad he has, not bring more players in, and I am confident he will do that. Everything he's achieved with us suggests he's smart and flexible enough to make the step up, but there will be some bumpy moments like Saturday along the way.
We need to improve our defending at set pieces as that's a clear weak point, and need to figure out a way of becoming press resistant we we've been too easy to ruffle so far.

We had the Summer to bring in a decent striker and on loan 19 year old Shaq Forde was the best we got . I like him ,he looks a good player and at least he's scored a goal .Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:26 amActually it’s a very good question, negative is as you say,the positive is we have a good manager, good ball players and a youngish team willing to learn. Re: Why Should We Improve?
Perhaps the new defender Brandon Cooper might be an option to tighten up the defence, perhaps he will get a game tomorrow against Gillingham in the EFL trophy and if so, then see how he shapes up. Another option is bring back Pratley to toughen up central midfield area and play Theo in his best position on the left wing. We really need a dominating target man centre forward, no answer as to how to fill that void for the moment ?Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:26 amActually it’s a very good question, negative is as you say,the positive is we have a good manager, good ball players and a youngish team willing to learn. Perhaps Drinnan can do a job there when and IF he gets back from injury, yes really clutching at straws here !!

Yes he scored a goal from around a yard out, poachers goal but hardly a ''Bobby Dazzler'' of a goal was it !RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:41 amWe had the Summer to bring in a decent striker and on loan 19 year old Shaq Forde was the best we got . Re: Why Should We Improve?
We actually need to improve set pieces period. We don’t score from corners and we have a reluctance to target our centre backs when they come forward. I can’t remember the last time we scored from a corner, or frankly even got close.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:40 am I don't think a shaky start to the season undoes the excellent previous 18 months we've had under Wellens. Re: Why Should We Improve?
Chief bedwetter here again again LSN, given it some thought and if it was me I would play pratley more at the moment,he’s been there before has leadership experience and gets stuck in, play a system with two up front or Pigot close behind the centre forward, and bring on Moncur as an attacking midfielder in the second half if we are still in the game, however I wouldn’t put him on in the start because he’s not fit enough imo. There all sorted we can all rest nicely in our beds tonight and not wet any bedsComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 9:52 am Playing Devils advocate here........again, but as the thread says, why should we improve?

Os also need to improve a lot in defending against the oppositions set pieces.DrWindy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:45 amWe actually need to improve set pieces period. Re: Why Should We Improve?
I don't care if the ball came off his backside and went in . The point was he was in the right place at the right time and put his chance away . That's all you can ask for .Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:45 amYes he scored a goal from around a yard out, poachers goal but hardly a ''Bobby Dazzler'' of a goal was it !RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:41 amWe had the Summer to bring in a decent striker and on loan 19 year old Shaq Forde was the best we got . This is the most important area to improve .Our defence has been all over the place and is leaking like a chive .Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:49 amOs also need to improve a lot in defending against the oppositions set pieces.DrWindy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 04, 2023 10:45 amWe actually need to improve set pieces period. Re: Why Should We Improve?
Is everyone going to lose their sh*t like this every time we lose a game this season? So, so tiresome.

Re: Why Should We Improve?
The answers not more players/forwards.
With one or two noteable exceptions we always fail to enable supply and support our forwards. Jamie cureton scored for everyone he's ever played for and probably still is ,not us though John Marquis same again and we all know there's others.
Last season, great almost ran away with it but not many goals.
Look elsewhere for a solution.

Re: Why Should We Improve?
Some interesting replies, however if someone thinks Drinan is the answer, we really are f*cked lol
People saying we need to do this, we need to do that, but how do you tighten up a leaky defence?
Most goals conceded in the league so far.
How do you suddenly score more goals?
Saying it and doing it are completely different things.
We played well against Cambridge because they let's us, Sage didn't let us. Most teams wont let us.
Challenging few weeks ahead of us

Well quite simply the answer is that if we do not improve, then a long hard season ahead with the possibility of being demoted back to Division Two.

Re: Why Should We Improve?
We can improve because we have a manager who, despite having a preferred style of play is, as his interview after the game this week showed, prepared to learn lessons and adapt. It’s all about the defence. If we can stop conceding stupid goals from set-pieces and crosses we can climb the table.
Our success last season was based on keeping control of games and being organised. Can’t get anywhere conceding 2+ goals a game and I am sure that is RWs first priority.
