Standing up

Post by BIGRON »

Not being as agile as I was in my younger days I'm finding it a struggle even walking distances nowadays , last night the last 20 mins of the game really peed me off with people in the front rows standing up every time we attacked , the 2 guys in front of me were persistently standing and when I politely asked em if they could sit down I was told f*cking stand up then ☹️ in my younger days I would have argued my point but I'm too old for that sh*t now , is it too much to ask for people to be reasonable 🤔.

It's natural to get excited and stand up when there is a goal chance, but I think there is a wider problem

Back in the good old days, the excitable would stand on the terrace, with younger kids put towards the front so they could see. The seated areas were for fans who were less excitable. Away games especially are a problem now. When we take a large following and are in allocated seats, it's pot luck where you sit and if you are small or not very mobile you are stuck.

This is why the safe standing areas at PL games work so well. Should be rolled out elsewhere

The standing contributed to the good atmosphere.

There were lots of empty seats lower down the tier and to the sides of the middle of the stand - stewards said to sit where you want. I'm not sure what the issue is?

My mate who is a Chelsea supporter, had the same problem. He said the solution was to utter an aggressive "sit dahnnnn"!

Only my opinion but seats are for sitting on 🤔

Fans who want to stand should situate themselves in the back rows, but of course that would be too simple.
I prefer to sit but people standing up in front of me doesn’t encourage me to go to away games………hopefully safe standing areas will appear at some point.

Notice at Charlton everyone stood up when we had a chance which our fans never do. Quite liked it but I am very conscious of who’s behind me.

I agree, people acting with common sense would be the sensible option.

Safe standing does seem like a reasonable compromise at bigger grounds that could accommodate it, I would obviously prefer normal terracing and the social aspect that involves, but given the way games are managed / policed at the higher levels not having assigned spaces whether to sit or stand will never be acceptable.

We've had this fudge for years where standing in seats is effectively accepted with no attempt to stop it, but because it's technically against ground regulations / safety plans you can't have stewards organising it by asking standers to move back etc...its become more of an issue with most? Clubs moving from the default position of seating being unreserved for away fans.
