I've just started watching Silo on Apple TV, up to E3. Very gripping stuff and will have to binge it. I had been looking to read the Wool book series for a while now and will probably start after watching this first series.

Apple TV really have got some great shows on their platform. Really enjoyed For All Mankind.

After all the hype, started The Bear on Disney.
It is excellent , a good insight into a busy kitchen.

Actually worth sticking with, some superb performances.
If its a tense kitchen experience you want I recommend Boiling Point with Stephen Graham.

That was a stunning film. Brilliant performances and I thought the "all in one continuous shot" direction was enthralling. Having worked in the trade it was so true-to-life.

Not watched The Bear yet but plan to.

So what do we all think of the new University Challenge? Is the new man a bit too "chummy? Why change the set? Why abandon the cards for the questions?

Don't mind the set or the use of a screen instead of cards. But he was talking a bit fast at times which made it harder for me to clearly hear the questions. Hence why my performance was slightly below my usual high standards.

But the chummy stuff needs to be cut right out. I'm not saying he needs to be a total b*stard, but UC is no place for such niceties.

Bit disappointed that the first set of teams on Only Connect were mildly attractive and seemed un nerdy. Hope normal service is resumed next week.

Watched it for the 3rd time today (first time in iMax), can't fault it. Nolan is a wonderful film maker and the film deserves everything that comes its way. The acting, colour, sound and Nolan's masterful direction combine to make it essential that the film is seen as intended on the big screen.

I want to watch it again

Been enjoying Earth on iPlayer. Mind-blowing and Packham is a lot more interesting that Attenborough (tin hat firmly on).

Colin from accounts on iPlayer was amusing.
Watched the first episode of Wolf on iPlayer which is bizarre, the acting and some of the writing is awful but it's hooked me in. Bit out there for the BBC. Also started The Girl From Plainville on All4 which is good so far.

The Covenant - Meh, but it'll do.

The White Lotus - Once again I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but really enjoyed season 1. I'm struggling to warm to season 2 though.

Smile - Decent enough horror that deploys the usual techniques but to good effect.

Watched The Boys over the last two weeks, brilliant show, great fun, very good satire, and an all time great villain

The Team on All4. Crime drama about German/Danish/Belgian detectives palling up. It's a few years old and perhaps a bit standard Euro noir (eastern European baddie, dead prostitutes etc) but finding it pretty gripping. Plus some great shots of Antwerp.

Yes, the direction, sound, and visuals were all stunning, and lots of decent acting performances too.

But, it embodies gratuitous complexity and is loaded with awful dialogue. I like that we have film makers like Nolan who are still willing to take risks. He needs to have the script and editorial control taken away from him.

There is a decent film buried within this pretentious mess. Maybe in years to come we'll get an alternative version. It works okay as a big screen experience but will not translate to the small screen.

Yeah the dialogue is awful. At one point he says “I am become death”. Did nobody proof read? It’s “I HAVE become death”! What a wally!

A few more films I've caught recently:

Greyhound - Tom Hanks film where he captains a battleship in WW2 escorting an Atlantic convoy bringing supplies to GB, which comes under attack from a pack of u-boats. A bit sh*t. Don't bother.

Mrs Harris goes to Paris - Brit flick set in 1950s London and Paris. Usual class aspiration nonsense, where a cleaning lady decides to go off to Paris and spend all her money on a Christian Dior dress. Along the way she awakens class consciousness and helps the House of Doir reinvent itself with a new business model. Possibly worth watching just for Jason Issacs' "oirish" accent, but not much else.

Ticket to Paradise - Rom Com staring Julia Roberts and George Clooney, who play a divorced couple. Their daughter goes on holiday to Mali and decides to marry one of the locals. Mild hilarity and romance ensue as George and Julia plot to sabotage the romance but end up falling back in love... Actually, you can probably imagine the entire plot for this film without seeing it and you'd be absolutely bang on. It offers nothing new or interesting. So save yourself the bother of watching it.
