As much as I rate Joe W, I prefer Brophy in that LWB role especially if there is not a tricky right winger playing against us. He offers much more going forward even if the end product is not there - at the moment. I expect Webby will be hammering that into him this week.

I think Cheltenham got their tactics massively wrong by trying to match us up. Their wing-backs offered absolutely nothing offensively, so Brophy and Ling were often not marking anybody, which made their lives much easier. Two proper wingers could have caused us a few problems, with probably our two potential weak areas being the two wing-back positions.

Brophy did a good job on Saturday and as the season progresses maybe offers an upgrade on the position.I doubt it will be a major issue in the short term however as I imagine Embleton will recall Widdowson as soon as he is fit as the more tried and tested option.

People who don’t think Widdowson is up to League 2 standards are frankly talking bolox. He has spent most of his Career at L1/L2 level and if he weren’t up to it would have got found out by now. 10 years, 200 league games. I think he has proved his ability.

Solid player, nothing flash, yet still ten times better going forward than Ling. Brophy offers much more going forward but isn’t a better defender. Not pushed on Saturday by Cheltenham. Brophy may be a better bet in those games where we will control possession but up against sides who will attack us then Widdowson is the man. LB ain’t one of our problem areas.

There is a time and place for Brophy, being first choice LB ain’t one of them when we are up against teams who will attack us.

Left back and Left wing-back are very different positions with very different requirements.

The point being we go to games, we see how these players are being deployed and the systems we play and have played. We all know this, if we go regularly. I give people the credit for knowing this stuff so don’t get hung up on terminology. Assuming they go to games. I treat people like they have brains.

In defensive situations Widdowson is more reliable than Brophy. His attacking influence is far less than it should be (he's never scored a FL goal) and at 25 he should be experienced enough to be having a positive effect on games.

Ive covered this. I’m referring to the generic role these players are being compared for. I frankly don’t give a toss whether people call them LB, LWB, Defender, attacking full back, defensive wing back or whether we are plYong 442 532 352 5212 or whatever is flavour of the day. I was comparing Widdowson and Brophy and their merits in the role they occupy. A concept beyond your comprehension.

I find it redious in the extreme when people don’t have the imagination to look at the bigger picture. Tiny minds.
