What do you reckon has happened? It almost feels like it’s better if it imploded under pressure, rather than if they’re drifting somewhere bolted in

Nah more like a whale .
I think this probably gets to the nub of the attraction. It's because any old member of the hoi-polloi can watch a TV monitor. You have to be very rich (and, not a little brave) to watch a monitor while crammed into a tiny cigar tube hundreds of feet below the sea.Dunners wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 1:20 pm I wasn't paying much attention to it but, from what I can gather, this is a tiny submersible, that has no windows (the passengers view the outside via a monitor) and is controlled using a knock-off PlayStation controller.
I cannot for the life of me understand the attraction in going into it in the first place, never mind descending to the depths of the Atlantic. Why not just view the camera footage via a monitor somewhere nicer? Like the pub?

If I paid 200k for anything titanic related, it would have to involve Kate Winslet’s tits.

But I must admit that, even though I would love to see the wreck and if I had that sort of money in my back pocket, nothing would induce me to get into that tiny space and be dropped nearly 13000 ft where the pressure could crush that vessel and me, and have to take 4 hours to get down there and about the same coming up. Because of that I'm devastated for those guys on board, knowing that if they haven't somehow managed to get to the surface somewhere, there will be no recovery or rescue. Just awful.
Lucky for them Global warming has melted the Icebergs so they won't face the same plight as the Titanic.CEB wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 2:30 pmcymruO wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 2:24 pm Been a huge Titanic buff for over 50 years and I had the privilege of spending an afternoon with Eva Hart, the Titanic survivor from Chadwell Heath. Even if they have got to the surface, they’re f***ed unless they’re found soon
The money they “waste” ends up in the wage packets of all the people who design and build the thing, the crew who man the boats and manufactures who obtain the raw materials from suppliers who pay their workers to get them and many more besides, like logistics. The whole supply chain and probably a lot of jobs are supported by this ‘waste’.Friend or faux wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 1:35 pm To me, the real story, is that people can spunk so much money on a trivial & dangerous mission. Be better if all that effort was channelled into making kidney machines or something.Dohnut wrote: ↑Tue Jun 20, 2023 2:36 pmThe money they “waste” ends up in the wage packets of all the people who design and build the thing, the crew who man the boats and manufactures who obtain the raw materials from suppliers who pay their workers to get them and many more besides, like logistics. What you see is what you get
You've made your bed, you better lie in it
You choose your leaders and place your trust
As their lies wash you down and their promises rust
You'll see kidney machines replaced by rockets and guns
And the public wants what the public gets
But I don't get what this society wants
