Music you’ve discovered
Enough of the oldies mentioning that the sixties were quite good.
Post recent good stuff here.
This is Japanese Breakfast, project of writer & musician Michelle Zauner. She’s bloody great

No, just drawn her as she performs music;

Though bloody hell, that drawing has not aged well, she looks more shiny than the guitar

They’re London based but have you heard anything by Kero Kero Bonito?
Also, if you like Chai you might like Hinds, who released a joint single with Chai and who are really good, despite (or maybe because) they seem very unfamiliar with a guitar tuner

Heard this on 6 a short while ago so not pretending to be the next great A&R man but very much enjoyed it and the accompanying record:

Hinds, not heard them mentioned in a while. Had tickets to see them a few years back and then forgot all about it until going through my emails several months after the event, fascinating true story. Did the same with Sleigh Bells too, which I was furious about.CEB wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 3:13 pmTRUMP Plumbing wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 1:52 pm Keeping things Japanesey:

Did that with a Superorganism gig. Maybe it’s like a little gland in the head that keeps ageing indie fans from ruining the aesthetic?Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 3:20 pmHinds, not heard them mentioned in a while. Re: Music you’ve discovered
Maybe. I got relatively last minute Symposium tickets for their reunion show last year then promptly got hand, foot and mouth 24hrs later so the aesthetic also remains intact there.

Also Asian themed but discovered Mitski a few months ago. Her last album was probably my favourite of 2022. Great performer too.

Jonathan Bree is bloody good if you’re into slightly Scott Walker-esque pop

Re: Music you’ve discovered
New to me, though not necessarily new to all the apparent cool-cats on here, but in the last few months:
Subjective : Act 1: Music for Inaminate Objects (2019)
Phantogram - Eyelid Movies (2010)
The Smile - A light for attracting attention (2022)
I'm no doubt years behind everyeone else, as am a non-digital music type, so don't have the world at my fingertips like some..

Real shame that the singer left. I hope he's doing better, and that the band is able to keep doing what they do.The Mindsweep wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 10:53 pm I like what they've done here with one of the finest songs of last year

Re: Music you’ve discovered
Didn't realise the singer left.
I'll be honest, when there was a buzz about their first album i listened and didnt really 'get it'. But I've returned and really enjoy them. The latest album has a real air of sadness about it. Reminds me a bit of arcade fire.
