With the amount of rich board members we supposedly have 300k is peanuts to them. I know he is accident prone but he is one player that can help us get promotion. Of course it’s about money. If he can treble his wages that’s a good enough reason for leaving. He has a young family to think about. Orients offer to him is probably peanuts compared to what he can get in a higher league. The board probably knew about this sometime ago. Yes we have a replacement but with that money coming in we should have also looked for a goalscorer.

Agree with some of the sentiments above. If he leaves we are not getting promoted. Even with the squad we have players like Sotiriou are still getting starts. If he goes we see more of Ruel running up blind alleys and falling over and more of Drinnan, Kelman, A.N.Other, running around like headless chickens with zero end product. I see Stevenage just signed a forward yesterday. Fantastic goal scoring record albeit mostly from lower leagues. They are still bringing in players (without losing any) and we are selling Smyth. We would deserve everything we get if that happens.

You missed the point of "Championship Football" , He's far more likely to play International Football again there than in Leagues 1 or 2. Money is a given higher up !
Still he's not gone just yet so no point bringing someone else untill he has.

For his quality yes; for his ability to stay fit I'd say no. If Smyth does have a decision to make today it will be football versus finances. A team like Brum can't afford to manage his minutes in any where near the same way as we have had to. If I was a betting man, then he will only last half a dozen games at a championship side before breaking down in some way. Its very sad because his ability is clear, but he's made of glass.

FWIW he's hardly made a contribution to our efforts throughout the month of January. He's been very off colour and is a primary reason for our change of fortune. Its not as if he's been man marked out of games - he just ain't been in them.

was poor v stockport & Barrow & a few others , only scored 5 more than Moncur . If he really was championship quality he'd be close to 15 goals .
