Ling is the worst RB I’ve ever seen. Judd has potential but is raw and injury prone at the moment. Turley is a CB.

Yes, in my opinion we definitely need two more players in these positions. I hope the powers that be are not underestimating the second division. It's a definite step up in quality compared to the national league.

Andy Harris was pretty poor at right-back. Before he got moved into central midfield and then opinions changed.
Perhaps the same thinking with Ling this year? Where did he play when Judd came on?
Although I don't really see him as a similar player to Harris.

Jan's Janse, despite his pedigree was pathetic, I thought Nicky Hunt was utter garbage. Alan Dunne, anyone? John Purches was unspectacular to say the least. Donny Barnard also springs to mind as someone demonstrably worse at football than Sam Ling.

Weren't he a left back and had played in the champions league, so probably slightly better than Sam Ling...

Yes, Ling gets a lot of unfair stick on here. And when you consider the comparison with the criticism between he and his rival Judd, you would think that Judd was another Carlos Alberto.

Re: Midfielder and Striker Incoming
actually thinking back, we've never really had any great right backs in the last 20-30 years, have we?
Even in 2006 when we went up Tan and Miller weren't exactly spectacular. In 2013/14 Scott Cuthbert basically covered the whole year, good player but a centre back. Last season it was probably our weakest position overall...
Best one was probably Matt Joseph...

Not sure why they would take Alabi off the transfer list and then bring in a new striker. Centre mid needed though.
Re: Midfielder and Striker Incoming
If Ling was called Sam Judd He would not get so much stick. I have doubts about Ling and Judd being good enough, so would start with Turley.

If Ling was called Sam Judd, we wouldn’t have rescued him from a bankrupt Dagenham.

So that’s our response - recycle players not performing elsewhere and hope they come good in an unfamiliar position?

Is that what happened? Seemed to me they were swapping roles at times, not too sure what they should be doing or where. Sort of making it up as they went along. Summed up the whole game for me. Probably Ok for minutes and fitness but not too sure any further forward about tactics and formation. Though corners to the far post was tried a lot.

Re: Midfielder and Striker Incoming
Andrew Whing did a good job for us in the 2010 season where we had the FA Cup run. Scored the best goal I've seen an RB hit too. Matt Joseph gets my all-time favourite vote though.Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Sun Jul 21, 2019 10:20 am actually thinking back, we've never really had any great right backs in the last 20-30 years, have we?
