An Utter Disaster
It's minus 4 degrees cee and the boiler won't work. No heat no hot water. FFS! The boiler guy can't come out until tomorrow.
I've got an electric heater I use in the shed in the living room but it's not touching it. Have turned on all the rings and oven on the Aga and thinking about introducing the air fryers but the house already smells like a chippy.
Plan is to go to work and rely on my taxi to save me from hypothermia and to run from the car to the bed where the electric blanket will be on when I finish.
It's a battle for survival in the frozen North. Roll on summer.

Had to have my LGP tank replaced today - the company knew it was needing replaced but had to wait till it was empty before they could do it. No heating this morning - minus 6 here - but now back on and slowly thawing out.

If I’d won an argument against my wife a few weeks back, we’d currently be freezing in one room of our place with no electricity or heating as we have building work done with the back of the building exposed to the elements. Luckily I lost that argument

Whats the problem? Have you tried turning it off and on again?Max B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 1:52 pm It's minus 4 degrees cee and the boiler won't work. No heat no hot water. FFS! The boiler guy can't come out until tomorrow.

Erin Doors wants to visit Scotland, she's not impressed when l ask if she wants to freeze to death or die from multiple midge bites.

If its a combi the condenser outlet pipe might be frozen, all it needs is thawing with hot water or a hair dryerMax B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 1:52 pm It's minus 4 degrees cee and the boiler won't work. No heat no hot water. FFS! The boiler guy can't come out until tomorrow.

Re: An Utter Disaster
Yes it is and I agree with HuntingdonO that this is a likely cause. Other simple thing to check is the pressure of your heating system - the gauge needs to be over 1 Bar to a max of 1.5 Bar with system off. You can top up if necessary by opening the 2 (probably) valves on your filling loop. Bon chanceMax B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 2:35 pmIs that the one that sticks out on the outside wall ?one o in huntingdon wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 2:26 pmIf its a combi the condenser outlet pipe might be frozen, all it needs is thawing with hot water or a hair dryerMax B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 1:52 pm It's minus 4 degrees cee and the boiler won't work. There was that thread about probability back in 2007

Ditto this - I'm sure you know how to re-pressurise your combi boiler, but just in case you haven't done it before it's worth finding out and trying.

That's the one, if it freezes up the boiler won't work.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 2:35 pmIs that the one that sticks out on the outside wall ?one o in huntingdon wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 2:26 pmIf its a combi the condenser outlet pipe might be frozen, all it needs is thawing with hot water or a hair dryerMax B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 1:52 pm It's minus 4 degrees cee and the boiler won't work. Re: An Utter Disaster
Admittedly not with a boiler but I find throwing the make and model number into YouTube sometimes brings back some advice, especially, as above, about tweaking the pressure valves.
Or, if you have a smartphone, perhaps find a plumber who could spare just 5 mins on a FaceTime link (and therefore could be anywhere in the country) to see the boiler via the link?

Re: An Utter Disaster
It's not the pressure. I know how to top that up when necessary. Sounds like it could be the condenser pipe but I would need a ladder for that.
I'll leave it to the experts tomorrow.

Tropical weather in the UK. This was what it was like when I left work in the dark. It’s a good job we have triple glazing and resistive and heat pumps.

I'm going to let you into a little secret. I don't have an Aga I only said I did to make Dunners jealous and for Trump Plumbing to sneer at his screen.

Update: No sign of the boiler geezer yet. Living room eventually heated up with the electric radiator thing. Everywhere else is like the Artic.
Cat who likes to sleep on top of the radiator cover is angry and confused.
