Re: Sam Dalby
Goal scoring record not great, assists not great, but for some reason Wrexham wanted him and the Southend supporters are sorry to see him go unless the fee was good.WilliamTell wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 8:44 am10 goals from 45 games?RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 5:39 pm That’s a good move for him but did he do much last season ?

Re: Sam Dalby
Perhaps Sam can now fulfill the potential he showed at Leyton Orient before moving to Leeds Utd.
Note this part below '' Dalby’s performances earned a big-money move to then-Championship Leeds United''
So wonder what sort of transfer fee Os got for Dalbey when he moved to Leeds ?
Of course doubt we will ever know, same goes for Steven Alzate's transfer to Brighton !
Wrexham AFC are delighted to confirm the signing of Southend United striker, Sam Dalby, who becomes the Red Dragons’ fifth addition of the summer.
Dalby, 22, joins the Club on a two-year deal, with the option for a third season, for an undisclosed fee. The forward – who started his career at Leyton Orient – was voted Southend’s Young Player of the Year for 2021/22, having scored 10 goals for the Shrimpers.
After starting out with the Os and making his senior debut aged just 16, Dalby’s performances earned a big-money move to then-Championship Leeds United. A further move to Watford followed, before he linked up with Southend last season – scoring one of his 10 goals in the 2-2 draw with Wrexham at Roots Hall in September. https://www.wrexhamafc.co.uk/news/2022/ ... sam-dalby/

Re: Sam Dalby
Years ago these transfer fees were quite openly made public knowledge, wonder why all the secrecy nowadays ?Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 5:25 pm Sam Dalby signs for Wrexham from Southend for an undisclosed fee.
I well remember the Jimmy Greaves transfer fee of £99,999 when Jimmy moved from A.C Milan to Spurs in December 1961.
''After protracted negotiations, Bill Nicholson signed Greaves for Tottenham Hotspur in December 1961 for £99,999 – the unusual fee was intended to relieve Greaves of the pressure of being the first £100,000 player in British football''
All seems rather nonsensical now !
Denis Law became the first £100,000 player in British football when he left Italian club Torino and signed for Manchester United on 10 July 1962, for a new British record fee of £115,000.

Re: Sam Dalby
Martin Peters was the first £200K transfer from Wet Spam to Spurs. I used to deliver milk to his house when he lived in Stoneleigh Gardens, Clayhall.
And to think (if I remember correctly) our club record purchase was the centre half from (I forget where) in (I forget the year, but it was Frank Clarke's era) - but his first name was Paul and he cost us £175K. And he was a good signing and we made a profit when selling him on.

Beesley is no longer our record purchase . The Italian paid £200k for Liam Kelly , remember him ?EliotNes wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:06 pm Martin Peters was the first £200K transfer from Wet Spam to Spurs. I used to deliver milk to his house when he lived in Stoneleigh Gardens, Clayhall.

Re: Sam Dalby
Paul Beesley was an excellent centre half and I was really disappointed when he left the Os to join Sheffield United. We paid Wigan Athletic £175,000 for Paul in October 1989. He joined Sheffield United for £300,000 in July 1990.EliotNes wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:06 pm Martin Peters was the first £200K transfer from Wet Spam to Spurs. Re: Sam Dalby
Surely our new signing George Moncur ( transfer fee rumoured to be around £300,000 ) must come into the reckoning as our record signing and also what about .............. ''Justin Channing cost £286,000 after arriving from Bristol Rovers in the 1996-97 season. After two years in London, he ended up playing non-league with Slough Town'' https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football ... g-27459898tuffers#1 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:41 pmBeesley is no longer our record purchase . Also mentioned on this Daily Mirror link is our ex player Otis Khan, then of Mansfield Town.......
''Otis Khan was bought for a fee believed to be £160,000 in 2018 when he was signed from Yeovil. He struggled to make himself a regular with the Stags though and a handful of moves followed. Now at newly-promoted Grimsby''

Again, I didn't realise we'd paid money for Moncur. But I hope he scores every penalty we are awarded this season.Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 5:09 pm
