Some of our support
Some of our supporters need to get a grip and stop wetting the bed. Just over a month ago we were stuffing Swindon out of sight, you would've thought by the reaction of the same supporters Orient 2022 were up there with Brazil 1970.
Since then we have had an enforced break of 5 weeks that has derailed us more than a little, played at Tranmere with a severely under par squad due to illness/injury and have lost by far our most creative players to injury (Archibald and James). The results are some disappointing performances.
However, according to some we've gone from Brazil 70 to Doncaster 98 in the space of a month and a half.
Ridiculous and a lot folks seriously don't know what it's like to support a club like Leyton Orient. This is what we do, this is why we are where we are, get a grip.

Re: Some of our support
Indeed Kokomo
This is our 140th odd year of existence
1 season in the top flight
1 FA Cup semi final
4 or 5 promotions
& 4 or 5 relegations.
The rest has been pretty mediocre .
I wouldn't change a bit of my 50 odd years of Loving this Club .

Sensible post. Now can we talk more about that Brazil side of 1970?kokomO wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 10:49 am Some of our supporters need to get a grip and stop wetting the bed. I used to spend hours over the park or in the culdesac practising how to bend a free kick like Rivaleno.

Kokomo...... You're deluding yourself if you think covid breaks has anything whatsoever to do with our abject form at the moment! To put your exaggerated example about Brazil into reality, we have gone from a very well respected, and dangerous free scoring side to a team that cannot now hit a cow's arse with a Banjo.

Another who probably started supporting the club in the 1980’s so is happy with us being rubbish. It’s not what we have always done. We used to be a championship side. I think it’s supporters like you that are part of the problem. Too many people settling for second best. This club is based in one of the great global cities and all it has done in the last 30 years is go backwards. Brentford are in the premiership for Christ’s sake. We are again festering in the bottom tier losing matches with barely any shots on target and are supposed to be happy? Utter tripe.

Re: Some of our support
Form is temporary. My point is a month ago we were playing some of the best stuff this season and talking about how we were scoring 4+ goals four home games running. Variants of form are also exaggerated in clubs of smaller resources (ie when you lose players of the calibre of Archibald and James the loss is felt a lot harder)Chief crazy horse wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 11:04 am Kokomo...... It's no surprise therefore that our defence has held firm 4 or 5 goals against in 6/7 league games but our attacking options have dried up. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work that out and why.

Re: Some of our support
Think it's a bit harsh to pin our consistent awfulness on the fans.
Brentford have probably the best owner in English football. What he's achieved there has very little to do with their supporters demanding better and more to do with him having an industry leading model for recruitment that has allowed them to progress up the league's in a fairly sustainable way. They have lucked out beyond belief.
Hard to criticise Teague, Travis etc as owners so far. They've put a lot of cash in, hired the right sorts of people, brought in the right types of players (mostly). This season is the first I think we - and tbh they - will have the right to be properly disappointed. There's not much excuse for being this far off the pace. Ling will be getting pressure for that, likewise Jackett.
Overall the club is moving in the right direction, I trust them to crack the playing side of things sooner or later. Doesn't detract from the disappointment that this season is likely a write off despite having the most exciting first team since Slade was here.

Fair points raised although I would argue that the 2015 vintage of a (fully fit) Simpson , McCallum, Cox was more exciting and better than the current crop (just chronically badly managed) Also , Koroma Bonne and Mcanuff of 18-19 (albeit at a lower lever) were better than what we have now (in my opinion)Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 11:36 am Think it's a bit harsh to pin our consistent awfulness on the fans.

This is nothing to do with us historically being crap / unrealistic expectations.
Jackett/Gallen is setting us up too defensively. They changed the shape and it hasnt worked.

The truth is in between. We didn’t have a covid outbreak for the Tranmere and Crawley games that followed the good win against Swindon.
In the league we’ve only won 7 games, lost 6 and drawn 11. Fans have every right to be pissed off with that after the way the board spoke about the minimum for this season and getting Kenny Jackett in as manager.

Re: Some of our support
I did something similar being younger than yourself, my player was Zico when I ever saw him on TV I was transfixed and went over the park trying to bend every free kick into the top corner. Such skill and sublime ability and the shame is we never got to see it much as football was rarely on the TV!Max B Gold wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 11:03 amSensible post. I think there's a fair chance that if we had not lost James and Archibald this would be a much happier place. For whatever reason we have not been able to find a way to play without them.

Re: Some of our support
That's pretty uncanny. I was just about to post the exact same sentiment. It would appear that we have lost all width without those 2 and also the ability to run at a defence (more than once) during a game. Without them we are relying on our midfield and that is never going to work out well with the current crop of players.Story of O wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 1:02 pm I think there's a fair chance that if we had not lost James and Archibald this would be a much happier place. Therein lies the problem, if you're happy with mediocrity there's no drive to get to where the likes of Brentford have managed. Thought we'd left "little Leyton Orient" behind but seems like there's almost Stockholm levels of wanting to stick in that mindset.
The owners have done a lot of excellent work on the business side and bringing the investment in but if they have a weakness it's the blind faith in certain areas that aren't delivering the results expected

So ex Millwall and Wolves manager Jackett isn't good enough to adjust and get along without a player or two getting injured? Hardly a good enough excuse for our dreadful performances of late. As it happens I think we might get a result away to Mansfield this Saturday, and even if we do i wouldn't be kidding myself that all is fine and Dandy after all. Our contrasting form is a big worry and has to be sorted.

Meanwhile we go in the opposite direction diluting the first team to keep this obsession with bringing through youth players, only to end up bringing in other people's youth players to replace them. Top logic.

Are investing heavily in youth .
Brentford bucked the system & when you say Multiple promotions you mean 2 ,
We have Half the number we have in 4 years compared to there rough 5-10 year plan .

Re: Some of our support
Asking why can't we have owners like the best owner, imo, in English football is a bit silly. They have exclusive access to a football analytics company that is incredible and has meant their recruitment has been way above any other small club. The owner is also absolutely minted and incredibly focussed on the club, in a way that is pretty uncommon.gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 1:49 pmWhich in the course of those years has brought multiple promotions along the way. Having a youth team is a big part of our identity, I think it would be mad to scrap on the off chance it allows us to have a couple more first teamers come in every season that get his promoted.
Plus, it took him a while to get it right as well. Took him 5 years to get promoted from league 1 to championship, despite pouring in cash.
