Not good enough for Lincoln? They won League Two so that's just a ridiculous stance to take. They were hardly going to throw him into the team midseason when they already had a forward partnership that was working. He was clearly signed as cover to help see out the promotion push. That doesn't mean he wouldn't be decent signing for a team further down the table.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 4:43 pmExactly.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 4:14 pmFair question. He went to Lincoln on loan, on the last day of January, this year, and only played 2 games. Now i reckon the two brothers in charge of Lincoln are pretty shrewd operators, and they only gave him 2 games. Says everything to meMr. Peanutbutter wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 4:04 pm
From his performances, what aspects make you think he'd be a bad signing?
If he's not good enough for Lincoln, he's not good enough for Orient is my opinion

Re: Orient bid for Lee Angol
Angol is a decent forward. Lacking in technical ability, but a reasonably good goal poacher and works hard enough. Not sure how he and Wilkinson would gel as a partnership; not much pace there. Would hope that we could do better.

I struggle with the concept that a club with professional and knowledgeable people would sign players who are simply and clearly not good enough. So I believe both Alabi and Gorman have much more to offer that what we have seen so far, else why would anybody with half a football brain bring them in.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 5:19 pmI don't either but I really hope he proves us wrong.
Alabi just didn’t fit our style and could do very well elsewhere. Gorman, a huge disappointment but perhaps after a good preseason will show us some of the qualities someone in the club thinks he has. He needs to as he will be a key player this season.

Doubt that our fourth choice (at best) central midfielder will be a key player. Couple of JPT appearances and then released to the National League before the end of the season.

Started the season out wide, ended it in the middle. Our default change early in the season was to take Lee off on the hour mark and move McAnuff inside. Then we switched to 3-5-2 and he started every game alongside Clay.

Sure, but not a Central Midfielder as such and I doubt he would be considered as a starter in that position as a rule, unless necessary. Charlee Lee being all but absent for the last 2 months. As it stands we have 3 central midfielders, Clay, Wright and Gorman.Kitch’s Magic Toes wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 8:09 pmStarted the season out wide, ended it in the middle. The reason why I feel he will be key is that last season, all competitions, he made 14 starts 14 appearances as a sub and a further 7 as an unused sub. 35 times in the starting squad. Despite being in my opinion fairly average. We have to consider the possibility that Clay and Wright may not be available for every game therefore Gorman, either as a used sub or starter will figure quite regularly.
Of course we may well yet recruit a strong CM, hope so, but he is not fourth choice right now and he will figure in games.

Re: Orient bid for Lee Angol
Gorman was available for literally every single game that McAnuff started in central midfield (including the Hartlepool game before Christmas). McAnuff was picked ahead of him for a reason. Gorman will carve out an okay career in the NLS, if he has the stomach for it.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 8:27 pmSure, but not a Central Midfielder as such and I doubt he would be considered as a starter in that position as a rule, unless necessary. Re: Orient bid for Lee Angol
Gorman had yet to start a game prior to Hartlepool, handful of sub appearances, we all know why. Immediately after Hartlepool he started 10 of the next 15 games, an unused sub in 4 and a used sub in 1, therefore in those games Jobi was not picked ahead of him but played alongside. In fact after the Hartlepool game it was his longest run in the team. Following that Clay and Lee took CM duties until end February. With Lee out Lawless partnered Clay in CM for a handful of games.Kitch’s Magic Toes wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 9:32 pmGorman was available for literally every single game that McAnuff started in central midfield (including the Hartlepool game before Christmas). McAnuff played on the left when Gorman had his run in the side. When McAnuff played in the centre after we switched to 3-5-2, he was picked ahead of Gorman. Not rocket science.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2019 10:14 pm Gorman had yet to start a game prior to Hartlepool, handful of sub appearances, we all know why. Re: Orient bid for Lee Angol
I think a little defensive deviation is taking place here. First. He is NOT a CM as a primary position despite the fact that on occasions he has played in that role and secondly he has NOT played in that position 30 times by being picked ahead of Gorman.Kitch’s Magic Toes wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 1:31 amMcAnuff played on the left when Gorman had his run in the side. A look at CM pairing stats demonstrates this is just not possible as I have proven.
What has happened is a personal dislike for the player generating all sorts of nonsense, something all too frequent on this forum and goes way beyond a fair critique of players performances.
We are all disappointed at his performance last season, I dare say he is too, after expecting so much and we know he is unlikely to get the nod ahead of Clay and Wright. It is likely he will get a decent amount of pitch time unless the club recruit another CM, Gorman is likely to get the chance to demonstrate he is better than what we have seen. I hope he does for all our sakes.
With Lawless and Lee gone and only Wright incoming I hope another, strong, CM comes in. At that point Gorman may drop to fourth choice. But to put him fourth now, behind Jobi, is nonsense as Jobi is not a natural CM for us but emergency cover at best, he is far more effective out wide.
