Exactly. No matter what the character of Pomeroy was, and yes it was stupid of him to prolong the argument, especially in this day and age of knife attacks. Does not seem to happen in UK though does it !
In USA, they get far longer jail sentences or even the death penalty.
That'll work. The USA with their longer sentences and death penalty is certainly a deterrent, they don't have anywhere near the amount of murders and violent crime that we have. (Whoops, it's much higher over there)
But at least once they commit the crime they do not come out again in a few years time to do similar crimes again.

OK, so it works so well that there are enough murderers and violent offenders around to keep the figures high despite huge numbers that are locked away unable to add to them.
