Re: Tory MP Stabbed to Death At Southend
Mrs NES had a lot of work dealings with him when we lived in Sarfend. She’s she’d some tears. Lovely man and a damn good constituency MP. I also found myself next to one of his daughters at a business event about 5 years ago. One must feel huge sympathy for his family.

The irony of being murdered in a church hall. Hope the scum bag that did it gets as bigger sentence as possible....maybe a life time of torture PLUS life in prison.

We might not know why it happened for days but I think he was very unpopular with the countryside alliance muppets.

Sky News reporting that counter-terrorism police are investigating. 25 year old arrested said to be Somalian. Still too early to say what the motive was.

Did the late Sir David have strong views on Islam?

Re: Tory MP Stabbed to Death At Southend
Max, the MP was a Roman Catholic and was an active Christian. He was socially conservative: he supported capital punishment and opposed abortion. He was an early Eurosceptic. He was also a strong supporter of animal rights, including a fox hunting ban, and he campaigned against fuel poverty, advocated tackling obesity and raised awareness of endometriosis, a painful condition of the womb that some women suffer.

Re: Tory MP Stabbed to Death At Southend
If his murder is religiously motivated, then so what if he has previously expressed views on that religion or its followers? It's just a bloody superstitious belief, FFS!
I genuinely have no idea about the MPs views on Islam, nor do I care. But, in my opinion, asking such a question is on the same dodgy moral ground as questioning the atire of a rape victim. It simply shouldn't be a consideration.

Re: Tory MP Stabbed to Death At Southend
Recall David Amess well as an MP over the years via media coverage. Have realised after his tragic death what a hard working MP he was and how much he was admired and respected within his constituency and across all sides at Westminster. Being a good local MP was where his interest was and is in many ways above party politics.
A very sad day. but such attacks on our democracy will never win of course.
RIP Sir David Amess

Re: Tory MP Stabbed to Death At Southend
What sickening news. My condolences to his family and friends, may he RIP.
From the epitaphs on the tv this morning, Sir David doesn’t sound like your usual Tory - a hardworking MP with his constituents best interest at heart, wherever that constituency happens to be, who are genuinely going to miss him and his work.

A man has been brutally murdered but you don't want to know what the motive was. Why not?Dunners wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 7:43 am If his murder is religiously motivated, then so what if he has previously expressed views on that religion or its followers? Re: Tory MP Stabbed to Death At Southend
My partner met him when she worked for the NHS and he opened the new COVID unit
Said he was incredibly courteous and approachable which seems to be most people's opinion. A long-standing constituency MP who valued public service, & his constituents.
A very sad loss to the people of Southend and Parliament.

I think the silent majority of MP's work hard with the best interests of their constituents at heart. Our views are tainted by a combination of career advancing individuals who as such hog the media limelight.
Being an MP is a thankless task and if we all knew what it entailed I'm not sure that most of us would either be able to keep up the work or want to do it in the first place.
