Not something one wishes to read early on a Sunday morning, nor at any time. One can not deny that he served the club brilliantly in his time here, though.

Re: My Eyes Ain’t Wandering
I can't find it but he did say something different the summer before and was non-commital, something about putting himself in the shop window when playing for Zimbabwe.
Also, didn't Travis say before the tinpot that they did not expect any significant movements, the squad that got us up would be given a chance and there would be only one or two signings?
Big Nige doesn't strike me as a guy who is gonna lie, perhaps the interest became concrete after, athough given Bonne's low release clause he must have known he was talking bollox.

He's gone, done well for us. What is said in an interview can change the next day. You wouldn't respect a player rocking the boat saying he wants off when team is trying for promotion would you.

Not sure about last season but yes, you're absolutely right with what Nigel said at the end of this season, there would be hardly any movement.eagwgw wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 10:18 am I can't find it but he did say something different the summer before and was non-commital, something about putting himself in the shop window when playing for Zimbabwe.

I guess that was just to reassure people and ensure season tickets were renewed, which is fair enough.

Re: My Eyes Ain’t Wandering
Given that there were bids for both players in January one could have reasonable grounds to think there would be an agreement the club wouldn't stand in their way if they stayed until end of the season, which is fair enough.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 1:13 pmNot sure about last season but yes, you're absolutely right with what Nigel said at the end of this season, there would be hardly any movement.eagwgw wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 10:18 am I can't find it but he did say something different the summer before and was non-commital, something about putting himself in the shop window when playing for Zimbabwe.

Methinks Mr Travis was stretching the truth somewhat, "hardly any" has enough wiggle room in it to be seen as misconstrued.
From what I've seen it appears both players were in talks before the loss of JE. Don't think it caused them to move but if they had any lingering doubts I reckon it would've made up their minds to move on.

Re: My Eyes Ain’t Wandering
Both players signed improved contracts over the last 12 months and were told the club would not stand in their way this close season and allow them to move on, In return we got a higher fee for JK as he had a longer unexpired contract to run. Bonne (agent) agreed to sign a new contract only if a release clause was inserted in his new contract. JE certainly got the best out of both of players but they were leaving this summer whatever, they both performed extremely well last season and got us promoted and the club kept their word.
Think Bonne will always be a fans favourite at whatever level, works his socks off and scores goals. JK could be a sensation at Championship level but he needs to be handled correctly, he's a confidence player and JE certainly gave him the confidence to go out and play hopefully his new club will encourage and improve him.
We have a list of targets, so the next couple of weeks should see a couple in before Harlow on 6th July

Re: My Eyes Ain’t Wandering
A lot less than tripling his wages probably has.
Why are we still doing this as fans?
Players go to higher placed clubs for 2 reasons .
Higer level of Football & more money.
" theres more to life than money " responses are a crock of sh*te .
Next time you are offered a raise or a tax return etc , tell them nah its alright
Moneys not everything .
Not digging you out Milano
But its obvious.
Stepping up the ladder brings benefits

Re: My Eyes Ain’t Wandering
Agreed with your analysis of the build up to both going. And no complaints from me, as much as I'd have loved them to have both stayed. It's a short career and I don't blame either of them for jumping at the chance to play Championship football.Top of the West. wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 1:56 pm Both players signed improved contracts over the last 12 months and were told the club would not stand in their way this close season and allow them to move on, In return we got a higher fee for JK as he had a longer unexpired contract to run. But for footballing reasons, I reckon it's a stretch too far for both at the moment. I can see Charlton having a tough old season and Bonne copping it from their fanbase when he struggles to score goals at that level, which he will as he won't be getting as many chances as he did here. I know he's 23 but he's still only had 2 full seasons, both at non league level. He really needed a season at L1 or L2 level before even thinking about the Championship. Same with Josh, he ain't going to rip defenders apart at that level like he did for us, which means on the occassions he does get an opening, his decision making needs to be spot on.
We knew they were going, we knew we needed strikers to come in as it was, I don't know why we couldn't have got anything sorted out earlier.

Re: My Eyes Ain’t Wandering
Transfers can be very straightforward as the Wilkinson deal was in the end, we nearly had him in January and once we saw an opportunity with his release fee at the Daggers and Bonne was agreed it was a tap in to get done.CreamofSumYungGai wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 3:02 pmAgreed with your analysis of the build up to both going. Other occasions you have to work hard to get deals done because clubs/agents/players change their minds or think they might be able to do better also there is always a negotiation to be done on salary and bonusesand agents fees. Having lists of targets is one thing, doing deals to get them in is another, but I think we will get one done this week at least, and another (at least) before Harlow, we will also look at a few in Pre Season as there are going to be a lot of good young players looking for clubs and there will definitely be some good players available.
Hard as it is we need to be patient .
