Re: Essex Cricket
Derbyshire vs Essex abandoned due to Covid in the Derbyshire camp. Decision on allocation of points to be made at a later date, but effectively puts paid to any slim chance we had of getting through to the final six.
I think they will wait until the final round of fixtures finish Wednesday before a decision is made.

Re: Essex Cricket
Such a disappointing way for things to end. Chances of getting into final 6 were slim but not impossible, but Essex really didn't play well enough in the opening 2 or 3 matches and this group turned out to be a much more competitive one on paper. BWT also gone and it's going to be really hard to go through in the T20.

Match treated as a draw. Essex get 11 points.

Re: Essex Cricket
At least the final outcome wouldn't have seen us progressing, even if the Derby match had run its course and Essex had taken 24 points. Sadly our first 3 or 4 matches were a disaster. Not enough batting points and playing on pitches that reduced Harmer to a shadow of his former self, and where Porter, along with the batsmen rarely got out of second gear. I think as well, that the Group proved to be much stronger than many believed. Dear old Don Topley was trying to work out who would go up with Essex - never any thought that maybe Essex wouldn't make it.
Lessons? We need more runs from our top 4 on a regular basis. IF we had finished the Derbyshire game with 24 points or even less, but had taken 2 or 3 batting points each time we would not have lost so many games and we would have been in the final 6.

Re: Essex Cricket
I really sense some arrogance has crept in at Essex over the last couple of seasons. We have needed to sign at least one batsman and a decent all rounder for two years now which they addressed only for this seasons T20 by getting Neesham. I hope this season serves as a wake up call to the Essex committee and they out some of the dead wood and make a couple of experienced signings for next year. I know we have got some good youngsters coming through but our squad lacks depth and the batting is a joke.
Topley is not my cup of tea, he talks about Essex as if they are invincible but mostly loves talking about himself and his career. I turn the sound down when he's on.

Re: Essex Cricket
With Essex not qualifying for the top six at least Somerset have a good chance of actually winning their first county championship.

100% agree with this. Bopara has gone, Tendo is shadow of former self, Chopra can’t get a look in & Cook may not be around next year. I’m surprised two batsmen haven’t been brought in yet. Let’s hope we gain two senior batsman over the winter otherwise we will slip back to the 2013/2014 Grayson era again.

Re: Essex Cricket
Lose to Glamorgan, so that is the end of any hopes of silverware this summer. A very disappointing season but the latter stages of the One Day has brought some promise for next year. Rymell could be a great opener in the County Champs and, I could see Khushi and Nijaar playing a lot of first team cricket next year. I hope Cook decides to carry on but maybe the time has come for Ten D to call it a day. There's promise with Buttelman and Pepper but my jury's still out with Walter, Allison and Plomb. For the rest of the season we're playing for some cash in the lower tiers of the County Champs.

Watched the end of the Essex innings on the streaming. Should have scored 320 at least but lost our way.cymruO wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 2:24 pm Lose to Glamorgan, so that is the end of any hopes of silverware this summer.
