According to Martin Ling we are not signing anyone until the new manager is appointed

Thompson and Coulson - too slow
Coulson and Happe - too slow
The recruitment drive should be focused on acquiring players with skill sets that complement what we have, and in the case of central defenders we definitely need someone faster and more mobile than Coulson. Doing this will help us to work better as a team, and be greater than the sum of the individual part.
Experience & pace
Very Good

Re: Os staying and going
On this point of separate manager and financial negotiator - this way the manager can always use it to motivate a player, such as “I would have paid you more” or “Let’s prove to the DoF how much you’re really worth “ etc.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 10:26 amThere is no guarantee that any of the players offered contracts have been offered better or even equivalent contracts. If the wage cap was in place some almost certainly may have been offered worse terms. Without the wage cap it comes down to the directors pockets. Regardless of the cap, there will almost certainly be more players looking than contracts available. I agree with the theory that a manager and not a DOF should have the major say in which players are retained. That said the best manager with an eye for a good player and a good motivator, may not be the best financial negotiator and accountant when it comes to maintaining a budget, hence a DOF seems sensible for the different role. I have no doubt our better players who have been offered the new contracts will be seeing what offers they can achieve elsewhere, it may be a long time before we see signatures on the dotted line.

Re: Os staying and going
Given all managers go back to their previous club it will be interesting if he can lure Andy Cannon and Jordy Hiwula, who Pompey have just released, here. It would be a big ask to get Cannon here as L1 clubs will be interested but Hiwula will struggle to get a L1 side. The worry with him is he's working his way down the pyramid and Jackett didn't give him any game time when he signed him last season. However, he was Coventry's top scorer in 18/19.

They have to inform the club within four weeks from the end of the season, so within the next two weeks. They are free to sign for another club most contracts end at the end of June but they can sign a pre contract agreement.

Personally I wouldn’t be trying too hard for their signatures if they aren't on board by the end of the week.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 10:42 am They have to inform the club within four weeks from the end of the season, so within the next two weeks. Re: Os staying and going
KJ has probably spoke to them this week and assessed whether they are likely to stay. They can drag it out to the 28 days. You don’t need that amount.of time to make a decision either way . We only want committed players to help us get to the next level. Generally when you are offered a new job you decide in a matter of days for fear of losing it to someone else. The 28 days is ridiculous. I suppose there is the question that a contract ends on 30th June. All contracts should end on 31 st May when the season is completed

I don’t suppose that they are waiting 28 days to make a decision but using the 28 days to see if a better offer comes along.moonwalk19 wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 3:58 pm KJ has probably spoke to them this week and assessed whether they are likely to stay. Re: Os staying and going
I stand corrected, but I think June the 8th is the deadline day by which these players must decide if they go or stay with the club.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 2:04 pm I thought by now we would've been told if whether Wilkinson , DJ and Vigouroux were going or staying
Also wonder what will happen to Martin Ling, I think his contract may be up for renewal soon ?

OK, thanks Sid . For some reason I had it in my head our players were offered new contracts from the 1st May . Hopefully these three players will want to stay . They are all good players .Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 2:17 pmI stand corrected, but I think June the 8th is the deadline day by which these players must decide if they go or stay with the club.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 2:04 pm I thought by now we would've been told if whether Wilkinson , DJ and Vigouroux were going or staying

Re: Os staying and going
Then again we wanted Ruel to stay, whereas these particular players were offered new contract before KJ was appointed manager, so KJ might not even be that bothered if any........or all of them move onto other clubs.

The list of players not to be offered new contracts and of those offered new contracts was announced on 11th May 2021.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 4:15 pmOK, thanks Sid . Re: Os staying and going
Interesting to see what happens to Danny Johnson. I reckon KJ will favour a bigger more physical type of striker who is better in the air. DJ is a great finisher but if we don’t have someone creating chances for him then KJ may allow him to move on.
Hopefully we’ll see some movement next week.

I think June 8th is the deadline day but as Tuffers wrote, Ruel signed a contract for us after his deadline date had already expired.Cheshunto wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 5:40 pm Interesting to see what happens to Danny Johnson. Re: Os staying and going
They don’t have to sign after 28 days they just have to advise the club if they are accepting the contract offer or not, terms can still be revised and re-renegotiated if that’s what gets the deal done, I don’t think we will be chasing any of the players though if they don’t accept what’s on the table some of them have had offers since January and I think KJ won’t be too bothered if they go, gives him more leeway in the market.
