The modern equivalent must be when Trigger in Only Fools & Horses justifies him winning a Good Equipment Maintenance Award from the Council by explaining that he's had his road sweepers broom for 20 years. Then adds (as an aside) that it's had over 10 new heads and handles in that time, but when challenged he still claims it's his original broom by producing a photo of it.

Or something along those lines.

But what that has to do with LOFC ------ :~ I'm sure PutneyO will answer someday.

a thought experiment that raises the question of whether an object that has had all of its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object.

So in relation to LOFC..do you mean because we've changed the owners, the manager, the players, the board, etc...we're still the same LOFC, in other words, we're still sh*t

This is a fascinating subject actually.
A friend of mine, found an old rotting morris minor in a barn, in Yorkshire. Now he has never restored an old car before, so decided to take on the challenge.
Basically all that was left was the chassis, the rest was rusty beyond repair, both headlights were intact, and that was all.
This was 3 years ago, and gradually he has found, wings and doors etc, and the car is about 90% restored.
The car was made in 1961, but has almost none of the original parts....all the parts are repros made in the 21st century.
He said a 1961 Minor, restored to mint condition will fetch a lot of money, but I said, surely legally it cannot be advertised as a 1961 Morris Minor, if 90% of the car is brand new.
I have no idea of the legal position, but this Theseus's Paradox seems to encompass this kind of thing
Interesting stuff

Surely long standing Football Clubs fall into this category regardless of whether they are “Phoenix”. Complete turnover of players, managers, owners, supporters, new grounds etc happens over decades. Are they the original Clubs when all replacement parts exist? Just askin’.

We humans are constantly replacing the cells in our body. Our skeleton is the most stubborn, I understand, taking 7 years.

So I’m in my 9th iteration.
