Agreed it’s likely he’ll be loaned out somewhere in January. Would take him back without question.LOFC1948 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 8:34 pm Bit surprised by this move and the level of fee involved. Stepping up to The Championship is a big move for him and it wouldn’t shock me to see him out on loan somewhere before the end of next season. Hope I’m wrong and I wish him the best - we owe him a lot.

Seems like a pretty sh*t and insensitive thing to do at that time, but I guess football waits for no one. Not happy about that now I know that.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
His best spell for us was the start of this season imo.RBMarshall wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 9:39 pm Is the consensus on here that Macca's performance last season wasn't quite what it was in his first season because he didn't get the rub of the green or because his performances weren't quite as good?
I guess a combination of being tired and the change in formation contributed to less stellar performances second half.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Knock down release clause if he agreed to stay another season and have a crack at promotion seems fair. We're a stepping stone club ultimately and being seen as a good platform for players to move up will make attracting young talent easier.
I think he could be a good Alexander style League 1 striker. His all round game improved hugely last season, is a good athlete and is happy to put a shift in. He's not going to be prolific higher up though IMO, too inconsistent in front of goal.

Charlton in L1 rather than the championship would have been perfect for him.

Thanks Thora.
BTW, why did the club insert such a low release clause in his contract? Who was the genius who did that? Release clauses are supposed to be high, not low.

It has to be signed off by the club to be inserted. Again I ask the question, who was the genius who agreed that?

Re: Bonne to Charlton
From what i've seen of him I think he'll struggle at championship level. League 1 will probably be his sweet spot. 200k seems a fair value for him IMHO.
Regarding the release clause, I suspect this was agreed last season to stop Macca leaving in the january transfer window..

Re: Bonne to Charlton
I agree with dis. Why oh why do we get done over on transfer fees time after time? Other clubs seem to sell high, but not us, little old Orient who give away their best assets on the cheap.Disoriented wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 12:16 amFair enough, but 200k is an absolute joke.Adz wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 12:15 am From what i've seen of him I think he'll struggle at championship level. Agree.Thor wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 5:57 pm The Charlton chairman is a proper nut job, he won’t spend the money and if you read his last message he has no intentions of doing so, in fact he’s looking to cut costs further. The strike partner will be gone soon with Bonne I suspect the cheap replacement. He can’t sell the club as he wants too much money, last quoted to be £70m plus debt of approx £65m and you can see why there’s no value in buying them. The last lot of buyers dropped out as he refused to sell the Valley or Sparrows Lane as part of the deal! Like I said he’s mental.
I thought Bonne would have learnt what a crap owner can do to a decent club and its players. Just like those players who signed for us under Beelzebub, he seems to have fallen for the porous lure of ambition rather than the solid ground upon which he stood.
Bowyer has already gone and the vultures are circling on their best players so, the door will be open to make a few championship appearances at least.
Good luck Mate ...you are gonna need every available drop.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
Pretty good assessment to me. Strengths are that he never seems to get injured, works his socks off and certainly takes a mean penalty. A very unselfish player. But he may find it tough in the Championship as his first touch isn't the best and the standard of defending is obviously much better there.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 10:58 pm Knock down release clause if he agreed to stay another season and have a crack at promotion seems fair. Bit of a gamble to go to Charlton. Manager who got them promoted has just left and seems to be plenty of issues with the owner. Could all go horribly wrong down there but I hope not for Macca's sake. He's been great for us over the last two seasons and I wish him nothing but well for the future.

See how much of a circus he’s joining, now Bowyer is staying on a 1 year contract. Madness I tell you.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
If the front 2 stay and I doubt they will he won't get.much game time he'd be a bench warmer. Like I said they will in all in all probability be off.
As it stands they only have 11 professional footballers for a club just promoted to the championship that's bad planning on a grand scale.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
So you get Bonne to extend his contract by an extra year with the condition of a release clause, or you have to sell him summer 2018 in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer now. It's not shoving in a release clause for shits and giggles.Disoriented wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 12:07 am It has to be signed off by the club to be inserted. Bonne wasn’t here under Beelzebub, and Charlton literally just got promoted. Re: Bonne to Charlton
Always been a big fan of Bonne. Said many times that Rovers should have looked at him after that first season in the National League. I think he would have done well in Div 2 - no doubt. I think a step up to Div 1 would have been 'right'. There is a massive step up just from Div 1 to the Championship. Stepping up from the National League to the Championship? I wish him well - he always showed a great attitude.
But I don't think this will work out for him.

Re: Bonne to Charlton
It seems obvious that the release clause was mandatory from the player and his agent. If it wasn't in the contract, then it wasn't going to be signed by Bonne. The Club had to agree with it or no Bonne signature. Simples.Disoriented wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2019 12:07 am It has to be signed off by the club to be inserted. Re: Bonne to Charlton
I see I'm in a minority in (a) wishing him well, and (b) thinking he'll do a very serviceable job in the Championship. Obviously I'm very disappointed that he's gone, but from his POV I can completely see why he would. I think most League 1 clubs would have been unable to prise him away (at least while Edinburgh was still around) as we could have made a strong case for him playing there with us in 12-24 months anyway.
What's annoyed me more is his agent lying about the reason him not playing in AFCON this summer
